The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

We chose the Devils Own kit to address heat soak while cooling the intake. I only wish our controller allowed us to spray prior to 2psi. At the time of purchase, we had two controller choices either activated by MAF or boost signal. Hindsight being such, I believe the MAF signal would have allowed for an earlier spray. Which could have supplemented our URD fuel timing parameters by adding an 116 octane spray at the right time.

Having said that, we chose Devils Own for the purpose of cooling the intake. For which its does at a lesser price then the competition. Had we been looking to address fueling issues using a water methenol system, I might have chose a different system after further research. But as you mentioned " the DO price is nice"

We have not had any issues with the pump or electronics. Yet we did have the very small and fragile boost teet snapped off the controller. DO did replace it after the warranty had expired for a minimum cost.

Hope this helps ...... Regards 8sm

Sounds consistent to what I've heard so far. Acts more like an on/off switch than a true progressive controller. Another guy I pm'd has the Snow Performance on the MAF but he said that also performs more like an on/off then a true progressive. Maybe I'm just a bit of a perfectionist though!

Running water injection is definitely the way to go though, our engines get crazy hot with the superchargers on them. Progressive or not it definitely helps.

Yeah and a heck of a lot less tuning with meth kits then all the electronics with a urd kit

Yeah, for sure! And a whole lot easier on the pocketbook. Can put in a meth kit like (or make your own like on Texas_Ace's writing up on Yotatech) AND buy a wide band AND gauges and other goodies for basically the same price as just the URD kit.

PISS!!!

I cant sleep, im too excited having a day off school and knowing the truck is going under the knife in 12 hours. im so excited!

Don't take Texas_Ace's write up as gold. He basically just looked at some parts on the McMaster website, and listed what he *thought* would work. He didn't even build his own water/meth injection that his write-up documents, he just purchased one from a popular vendor. It turns out that some of the parts and pieces he recommends aren't even compatible with each other; ask me how I know. Yotatech should be thoroughly embarrassed that such a "write up" is a sticky on their board.

Here is probably the best write up I've found for a DIY water/methanol injection kit:
Do It Yourself Water Alcohol Methanol Injection

Yeah don't worry I'm not, like for example that pump he suggests is actually pretty weak. Says to use an RV water pump. It's a good starting point though on where to find all the fittings and hoses and such though. I was originally thinking about this until I realized that same thing, he doesn't even have the setup on his own 4Runner.

I'll check out that other write up you found, might be a good one. I think I might eventually just go for a pre-made kit though.

Does anyone have a junk case or junk rotor pack they want to sell? I'd like to try my hand at rebuilding a rotor pack for my blower and I'm thinking the rotor pack bearings are nearing the end...

Ebay hasn't offered much for M62 parts unfortunately.

SC installed! Gauges - BOOST, AFR, TRANS TMP installed! Trans cooler - installed..
Next step - Water/Meth injection!

What gauge did you go with? Also trans temp.

Are you going to build your own water meth kit?

I went with Glow Gauge for all my gauges.
As far as meth kits, I think it's easier to buy a kit rather than build one. I know building one may be a bit cheaper.
I'm trying to decide between DevilsOwn and Coolingmist stage one kits.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you connect the afr?

It's a wideband AFR Gauge so I had to get a bung welded in my exhaust just before the catalytic converter. I just had a local muffler shop weld it for me. It then plugs into a controller which I mounted in the car under the dash. From the controller there are a set of wires for power and a connector that goes to the AFR gauge. This all took me about 2 hours to install!

Here is the GlowShift site showing the AFR gauge that I got.

Correction: GLOWSHIFT not Glow Gauge

Can anyone give me information on installing a water meth kit? The question I have is, can I install a water meth kit as my ONLY fuel mod? Can it be installed without a 7th injector kit?
I can't see dropping $900 bills on that kit right now.

My current AFR is running 14.3-14.7 during normal driving and 13.9-14.3 during boost of 3 to 6 psi.

i would like an answer from this as well.

Texas_Ace on the Yotatech forum did this. I believed he used a 14gph nozzle, and pure methanol. The problem is getting your hands on 100% methanol. If you can get it, and have a place where you can store a 55 gallon drum of it, then great. The next issue is making sure the pump you use is rated to stand up to 100% methanol.

Hmm, interesting... What's the theory behind why he needed a 14gph nozzel and pure meth? I'm in the same boat... I'd like to just use a meth kit... Tune the flow to tune the engine... In theory.

Thats what i want to do. I would like to start out with a small nozzel such as 3 or 5 gph then move up from there is or as needed.
