The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Does anyone know the answer to my question? We're there any changes to the ECU from 1998 to 99 plus? Will I be able to run the TRD 7th in my truck?

Hey Trevor, if I were you...I'd call Gadget up at URD (aka: UnderDog Racing Development). He's the man that know anything and everything about these S/C 3.4's!! He's a really nice guy to talk to and is more than happy to help out with any questions...specially if he might sell a $900 7th injector kit...lol!! But seriously, he'll know your ECU question and give you a honest answer if you can use your TRD set-up or if you'll have to step up to one of his units! Here's a link to there web site...you can call or email:

Good luck...let us know what you find out.

What are people using for an OBDII interface? I know a few are using the BR-3, which is no longer made.

One option I'm looking at is the Innovate LM-2 which is a wideband o2 controller and an OBDII interface all wrapped up into one nice handheld unit - LM-2 Wideband O2 Digital Air/fuel Ratio Meter

If I don't get that I will be running the Innovate DB wideband - DB Gauges: Air Fuel Ratio Guage

But then I would need a separate OBDII interface to mess with the fuel trims in closed loop tuning. URD sells the PLX Kiwi interfaces that can interface with the iPhone, or Innovate makes the OT-2 which can interface with iPhones as well (seems a bit better than the PLX at face value, plus the app for it looks good).

Just wanted to see if anyone had experience good or bad with any of these or another OBDII interface I didn't mention.

Well I just got off the phone with him and unfortunately it will not work with 98 and lower models, however they do sell just the box and I will look into that.

Dude...that sucks!! Well, I'm glad he could answer your question...even if its really not what you wanted to hear. But, hey...at least you know now. I hope getting/using their box will end up working for you.

Cheers!
FR4R Sorry...I haven't had any experience with either of those. I still haven't installed my S/C or 7th injector.

I hope someone will step up and give you some feed back...good luck!!

Cheers!

Just in case anyone wants to know what happens when the drive coupler breaks.

The pulley has about 60 degrees of play before it engages and will spin the rotors.

Gonna pick up a set of Denso Iridium IK22s soon, bc I just dont have the cash for the 7th injector at this time. Can anyone tell me if they are to be gapped the same as stock, or what the best gap is for these plugs?

I posted this in another thread I started but I thought the information and question could be helpful and realevent to this thread...

In the supercharge sticky thread the info states;
1 3/8” Vacuum Plug Intake Silencer Plug
1 Vacuum Hose – ½” X 34” long Connects Air Tube to Cam cover
1 Vacuum Hose - 3mm x 9" long Connects Vacuum Throttle Opener to Intake Manifold
1 Vacuum Hose - 3mm x 5" long Connects Vacuum Throttle Opener to Intake Manifold
1 Vacuum adapter tee - 5/16"x5/16"x1/4"

The problem is NAPA, O'reillys, or pepboys don't carry the vacuum hose in the 3mm (3/32") size.. OR, the 5/16x5/16x1/4 tee. However, I did find vacuum line that is 2.8mm and a tee that has a few sizes stepping up from 1/8 to 3/8.

Anyone know if this will work? If not, where else should I look for these specialty sizes?

Do I have everything?

I think I have everything to put this on, but I wasn't sure if I need the IAC check valve or not. Do the '01's use it? image.jpg

I'm considering a pullyboys 2.0 pulley from my current 2.2 any reason I should avoid this? I have URD 7th injector and am considering meth injection for the heat soak

2.65" Underdrive Pulley

I'd like to add something here that I'd never heard of until after I got my SC. I'm no expert but a little searching revealed some info on this forum and others.

Its reducing boost by running a larger than stock pulley - 2.65" - on the SC as a means to reduce/eliminate pinging. This pulley was available from TRD as a warranty item but they quit making it along with the SC. There are varying reports of success but some people claim to have eliminated pinging by running the larger pulley, colder plugs, and colder t-stat.

I know the point of the SC is getting more power and its a bit counter intuitive to de-tune it. However, I thought it was worth mentioning here just to help people know what their options are. Personally, I'm considering this option as a means of protection for my engine until I can afford the URD kit.

I wouldn't want to run a larger pully taking away boost just seems...not right. I ended up getting a URD 7th kit because it will help me run the 2.2 pully in the long run. Which is whenever I decide to get off my lazy ass and do my supercharger. Soon. But hey if you want to you can theres no harm in doing what YOU want with YOUR truck. Just look at my clearance lights :thumb3:

I just bought my 3mm hoses from the dealer. They are like ~$2/ft. Super cheap and the correct size.

When installing a supercharger is the URD 5VZ-FE Pre Set AFR Calibrator II worth $200?

Is it a waste if a 2.2 pulley is installed?

Are there any other goodies such as URD goodies that you wish you had just started with?

It won't be worth it for you since you don't have a A/F sensor...haha They are only came out on 99+ and are part of the Cali emissions system until they adopted the 50 state 2 cat version in 01.

I wouldn't recommend a 2.2 pulley without any supporting fuel mods and being at sea level. Some guys at high altitude (Colorado) can get away with a smaller pulley but you will run too lean and ping way too much.

I feel like I'm fine with just my SC at sea level and haven't pinged at all. I wish I had the 7th but I'm fine for now.

Did you find one?
