The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Let's talk exhaust. As an added benefit to superchargers.
Worth it? Better flow over stock?
If the consensus is yes on getting a replacement, I am thinking about a straight through design, magna flow 18".

Or going all out for a cat back. My current exhaust is not that bad shape wise.

Our engines are nothing more than an air pump! Therefore, you can only force in...as much air as you can get out. So it doesn't do a whole lot of good...if you build up your intake side...but leave your exhaust side completely stock!! I hope that makes some sort of sense...sorry it's late.

That's what I'm trying to improve next. Get that hot air out

I put an airraid non-oiled cleanable filter in (not the intake replacement) and JBA catback on. It was slightly peppier than stock. Maybe it's just trickery because it's louder. Willing to bet it doesn't hurt anything.

I wish I would have done a Dyno run before and after installing my headers. To see what the actual power differances is! I'm a true believer in headers...some aren't. I personally didn't think it was that difficult installing the headers. The hardest part was removing the crossover pipe. If you have a lift kit...it makes it that much easier. I myself, just cut the crossover pipe in half on the driver's side...and it came right out after that.

I had people telling me I had to pull the engine or drop the trans, or stand on my head while closing my right eye!! I don't know...to me, it wasn't that hard...and nothing like what people made it out to be.

Sorry guys...I don't know how to put more than one picture per-post!

Nice work! I wouldn't even consider headers after all the PITA horror stories I've heard about installation. That's good to hear it wasn't as bad as made out to be.
To put multiple pics, go underneath your post and go to manage attachments>browse>open>upload, then do your next one, etc. You can put up to eight images per post I believe.

I had my headers in the garage for almost a year cause I didn't want to mess with them. It took a buddy and me about 1/2 day to get them installed. I'd put it at a 7 out of 10 on the scale of easy to hardest. I personally thought the worst part was fabing the old exhaust to the new header down pipe. The smart thing would have been to drive it up to a muffler shop cause they have all the cool tools. We're a little hard headed sometimes...so we did it ourselves?? Not sure if it's going to say or be replaced...lol!!
afg10000 thank you for the "How to upload pictures" class! That's awesome!! Been on here for 3 years and just learned that...wow...that's sad! Oh well...thanks!

I assume a body lift helps a ton!

Ps rue your pictures didn't work for me
Anything big than an 1" BL...you might not even have to cut?? That's just a guess, but that's what it was look'in like.

Sorry you can't see my pictures...I have no idea what I can do to change them??

No sweat RussToy. Now if you can tell me how to parse pics and have individual text for each pic, that would be awesome.

Did you notice in power increase? Would you do it again? How much did you pay for yours? What brand are they? Can I have them? Who's going to be the next James Bond? Do you have a dog? Why do they look sand blasted? Did you have any exhaust leaks? Any problems with exhaust studs or nuts being rusty? What's your ssn? Do you have another car? Why did you call yourself russtoy? How's the headers holding up?

Did you notice in power increaseUnsure...I haven't been out on the road yet. Would you do it again? Yes! How much did you pay for yours? I got an awesome deal on them through a store that doesn't normally deal with Toyotas...they're more of a Jeep shop. IIRC I paid around $550 after my military discount and free shipping. What brand are they? They're Doug Thorley. Can I have them? No Sir. Who's going to be the next James Bond? You! Do you have a dog? That's a silly question...yes, I have 2 Pugs! Why do they look sand blasted? They came ceramic coated, which made them look like they're chrome. Not a big fan of chrome. I tested the thickness and didn't like what I found; therefore, I prep them and shot them with Jet Hot ceramic coating...now I don't have to worry about them anymore...at least for another 10years. Did you have any exhaust leaks? No Sir. Any problems with exhaust studs or nuts being rusty? No, but I still replaced all the hardware with new...lock-tite them all down. What's your ssn? Sorry...I will have to refer you to my accountant Do you have another car? Yes, sir...5 in all. Why did you call yourself russtoy? That's my name and this is one of my toys I play with. How's the headers holding up? Awesome...I have almost 15-20 minutes run time on them and they still look brand new!!

Damn dude...you sound just like my son...lol!!

I tried changing the oil in my Gen 1 supercharger...

I spent 30 minutes trying different techniques to get the hose into a place where I could draw the old oil into a syringe. I couldn't.

So, I thought to myself "You know, there's probably 150,000 miles on the S/C and I bet some of the oil is burnt up."

So, I shot 4 oz. of new oil in, hoping I'd then be able to dew it out. Negative, ghost rider.

So tomorrow I'm going to pay the Savannah Toyota dealership to pull off the S/C and drain/ replace the oil.

I'm going to ask them to measure the oil that comes out.

My closing statement is that whoever chose the placement of the drain plug deserves to burn in hell. And I wish I would've taken auto mechanics in high school.

Sounds like you have a first gen Supercharger with that difficult fill/drain hole. I would just do the change yourself. I'm sure it will save you a few hundred dollars and you can learn more about the rig while you do it. It really is not that hard.

I would love to but I drive 25 miles to work everyday, don't have a back up ride, and cannot miss work. I would do it if I had a competant person to show me the way. I've been stuck too many times without a ride because of past learning experiences. The difference is I used to live within walking distance of work.

I may make a post asking if anyone in the Savannah area would be willing to help me. I really don't want to line the pockets of the local dealership.

What you really need to do if you have a 1st gen supercharger is take the nose off and take it to a machine shop and have them tap and die a hole in the top of the nose cone so you can screw a plug in there, then once it's installed back on your rig you can drain it from the bottom, plug it, then open up the top and pour your oil in. That's what I did and it makes changing the oil a 5 minute job tops.
