The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Supercharger rebuild

I contacted the yard that has it and it's the older grey supercharger. Due to most of these being higher mileage and in need of a rebuild, you'd probably have to spend another $700-1000 on a rebuild and all the parts needed to use it (listed on first post on this page).

There is a guy in Lincoln, CA that rebuilt my 1st get for $650.

All bearings replaced, nose cone rebuilt, rotors coated. All he does is rebuild superchargers. He even painted all my hardware black.

I'll try and find the receipt for the phone number when I get home.

I'd highly recommend
Stiegemeier Porting Services*for a rebuild for you 4th gen m62 eaton (TRD second gen) guys. They are right around that $600 mark on price and work out of a full shop.

I have noticed a light amount of oil around the nose cone. Also looks like some splatter coming from the nose cone on other parts of the motor. Do i a nose cone leak/ seepage?

Dun dun dunnnn.... yeah that's a failed nose cone oil seal. Fun times. If you want to be real sure, run your finger under the nose on the silver groove. If it's oily or black sludge that's the one. I just did it recently. I used the Viton seal from here: Rolling Performance. Good luck getting the old one out, that was a real pain. Mine would not budge at all.

Cool, got to love jobs that seem easy but turn into a mess. Any tips to getting it off? So im assuming this can all be done while charger is on the motor? Remove pulley, get old seal off and install new. Fill oil up to the fill hole. Button it back up and done! Then listen to it whine about it.

Can anyone confirm the oil capacity of the TRD 2nd gen (Blk) sc?? I have read 4 ounces and I have read to fill it until it is just below the fill port, similar to a differential. Can anyone confirm either?

I rebuilt mine and finally have it back on the motor but want to make sure I have enough oil in it.

In theory, that's how easy it should be. Except that the old seal is aluminum and does not want to flex or bend at all. I had it in vicegrips and was literally pulling my whole 4Runner forward and it did not move.

It won't hold 4 oz, I've filled mine up twice with 4 oz. Fill it up to the hole but not so far that it's spilling out, just like a differential. It's a thin gear oil, same concept.

How tight should the alternator belt be with 2.2. pulley? My belt sounds like it's slipping in high rpm. Not sure if this is related, but after a rapid start above 30k rpm, it stumbles w/ power loss with some type of shattering noise. Tension on the belt is on pretty tight with about 1/2 inch resistance when pushed inwards.

If the belt is slipping, the engine RPM's will increase but the charger whine will not. Almost as if you let off the gas or something. A shudder or "miss" on the engine is a very different issue. Do you have the dynamic tensioner or the static?

I have a dynamic tensioner that came with the trd supercharger.

If you want a simple troubleshoot, take off the oil dipstick (one 10mm bolt) and release the tensioner so you can take the belt off. Clean off all the pulleys with rubbing alchohol and also wipe down the belt on both sides. Put it back together and see if it clears up.

That's what I did when mine slipped because oil had got on the belt and pulley and was slipping.

yes on my 2000 i have the wide band, "overage" we are talking about the same thing. Ok ill give that a go and see what it thinks.

when my ecu pulls any fuel, im talking about fuel that the 7th is spraying when the blue rectangle reaches that cell while i am still in closed loop. once open loop happens my AFR drop from 13.6 to 12.5 this is where i need to increase my values in the corresponding cells to get more fuel (11.5 numbers)

ok ill change my over pressure tomorrow and go for a joy ride. :hunter:

Did it work???

Figured I'd pop in here and say hi to all you boost junkies. Miss the sc days but can't beat a V8 now. Also wanted to let you guys know I'm still lurking around although not super posting active. If you ever need anything added or updated to the original post just send me a PM. Happy to add any links, write ups or information people have. Really want to add some more info and clean it up now that trd is gone and things/availability has changed for the sc. Hopefully once summer is over things will slow down and I can get to working on it.

I think the biggest change has been the price. The Toyota supercharger parts and accessories have almost tripled in price, it's ridiculous. Sourcing parts from Toyota is pretty much useless unless you've got a huge budget.

I'm not sure. I mean the main thing is that the tensioner takes up the slack in the belt once it starts spinning.

yeah. It seems like the tension is adjusted by the tensioner & the position of the alternator. I've never run into any issues, but I've often wondered if there is an optimum position.

Yes, Where there is the most contact on the pulley, But still enough to room for the tensioner to freely rotate as slack increases
