You obviously know something about the subject of making videos. I'll give you that.

Everybody has their own style, Chris Fix, Eric the Car Guy, Engineering Explained, Ratchets and Wrenches, etc, etc. We're not them, and we're not you. We're Timmy the Toolman and Sean. Our videos are geared towards the ABSOLUTE BEGINNER. We hold people's hands and walk them through the job. Doing this takes time. An experienced mechanic or DIY doesn't need this type of detail but a an inexperienced DIY mechanic will benefit from the extra detail our videos offer. We want our videos to be a one-stop-shop for people. We show you the job in detail and include things like part numbers, torque values, special tools needed, and links to helpful information like this forum thread.

Anyway, I've talked long enough. I don't need to convince anyone that our style of making videos is a good one. The feedback we're getting is overwhelmingly positive and we seem to be picking up new subscribers faster and faster so I think we're on the right track and putting out a good product. You should try watching the video. You just might like it.

Well, I wouldn't go all in on that wager. If somebody wants a step by step tutorial to get their cool new supercharger that they dropped $3000 on, they'll watch it be stoked at the level of detail we offer. We get great compliments on what we're doing on a daily basis. We try to trim our videos down as much as possible but we don't want to sacrifice the extra detail we know people appreciate just so the video isn't as long. If people want a short and sweet video, we're not for them. If people want a video tutorial that doesn't leave them guessing how something was accomplished, they come to us. And like I keep on telling people that say our videos are too long, you can skip through it. It's pretty simple.

I have no desire to start a thread on video production. I'm very happy with the quality of videos we're putting out there for people to use. I think this Supercharger video is one of our best yet. Sean did an awesome job editing. He's getting better and better.

I'd actually think the opposite. If I was looking for a video on a SC install, seeing the 1:20 time would tell me that it's most likely a very detailed video. If I was looking for a video on someone giving a review of a SC, I'd run from an hr and 20 min video.

I have no more to add here, if it's working for mtbtim then it works for him. Most content on Youtube is actually less than 20 minutes but is pretty mindless if we're honest. My metrics would suggest folks are bored while sitting on the toilet and surfing YT rather than watching a feature length film LOL.

I've got a buddy that pretty much makes a living on youtube (and a good one) and I'm shocked that he has 100K+ subscribers with the jibberish he produces but is what it is I reckon.

I would agree that it could benefit from being broken up into parts. You could maybe have the belt removal and intake manifold removal as separate parts since they would be useful for other jobs and could be beneficial as stand alone videos. Then have the installation of the SC as its own video.

I'd say if you keep doing these videos, buy a lav mic. You can find decent ones for reasonable prices and they go a long way with narrated audio.

You know, I thought about multiple parts for videos in the past. Sean and I did it for his transmission replacement because that was an involved job. But, whether it's one long video or several shorter videos, you're going to watch it all if you want to get the job done so what's the difference? Is it like the old movies that would offer an intermission so you can get up to go to the bathroom, have a smoke and get some bon bons from the concessionaire?

I don't argue that people's attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. If there was a way to make them shorter but still offer the detail we want to give the viewer, we'd do it. I'm incredibly proud of the videos we are making and all the people we are helping. We're never going to be as big as Chris Fix, Eric the Car Guy and other successful automotive YouTubers and we're ok with that. We're just a couple dudes making a contribution to the DIYer mechanics of the world.

In this case, it's a supercharger that costs almost as much as the 20 year old vehicle it's being installed on. Producing these is time consuming so I get the defensiveness, but the folks here are providing good advice from a viewer perspective.

We don't have hundreds of videos yet. In almost 2 years time we've made 64 videos and have almost 5000 subscribers. The fact I didnt like your advice doesn't make me a know it all. By the way, I've looked at your channel too. You're not exactly burning it up either at 9900 subscribers with 162 videos. Maybe you could learn something from us.

This conversation didn't need to go this far but unfortunately it did. Put yourself in my shoes and let me start telling you how you should make your videos. Sean and I don't have 10 years in like you but we're definitely not rookies either.

I'm rebuilding a 1st gen supercharger as some of you know. I'm still doing/editing the job but I did happen to film and quickly edit up this short video on how I did the oil plug mod to the nose cone. I hope this helps anyone who wants to do this!

Glad you like the video. Others apparently like it too. In 2 days, it has almost 2300 views. When Sean told me about this project, I said sure, I'll help you out and we'll film it but how many people are going to be interested in this video? A supercharger is an expensive modification. Sean thought it would be very popular and he was right and I was wrong. I'm not 100% sure but I think this is our fastest growing video we've launched. There's an incredible amount of interest in it which is surprising to me.

[MENTION=127339]4Reak Show[/MENTION] is local to us so hopefully he'll make it to our next party, sometime this spring, and maybe he can drop off a decal for Sean. I think our next party is going to our biggest one yet. We had guys from Tacoma World saying they'd make the trip from Los Angeles if we gave them enough notice. At our last party, we had members from this forum, Tacoma World and 3rd Gen Mafia show up. It was pretty cool. This year, which I don't know if it's smart or not, we're going to do a video invite to our viewers. 4runners, Tacomas, BBQ, Beer, and talking about Sic Mods. Does it get any better?
