The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

I installed this 2nd gen supercharger last week. Also did the blue top Supra injectors (312 cc). Seems to be running just fine. I haven’t installed the Innovate PSB-1 AFR/Boost gauge that I have yet. So I’m not sure of the exact running parameters on the stock computer.

I also have an old Megasquirt 1 v3.0 from a previous turbo project that I’m planning to use for stand alone fuel control.

Also a transgo HD2 kit waiting to go in. So many projects, so little time…

R4 software

got my URD FTC. got the plug and play harness and had them wire it up. Made install super easy, plug and play. If I every want to take it off and put it back to stock there are no wires that have been messed with. super happy. Gadget put the base map tune on for their kit so out of the box I am seeing more fuel in closed loop and virtually no ping, plus more power.

I'm reading the tuning guide and am super confused.

Question.. any good links out there aside from the U tune guide?
so far just concentrating on wrapping my head around the fuel part of tuning in closed loop. basically I'm trying to get my fuel trims as close to 0 as possible?
also when I read the U tune guide it says a value under 10 is leaning out the fuel mixture, but the base tuning map that was given has lower numbers in the spot I would need more fuel. IE in boost at 2500 rpm. the number is 8.9 which is lower than when it is in Vacuum at the same RPM 9.4

Should I remove my ECU fuse and reset the fuel trims. the FTC came with a pre loaded fuel map and i'm not sure if I should give the ECU a clean slate or leave it.

New Guy here....really interested in supercharging a 4runner project the son and I are working on...would anyone know where to find a complete nose cone assembly for a Gen 1 supercharger? I found a partial kit but it is missing the nose piece completely. I called Magnuson directly and no such luck there. ?

Jon Bond is a big player in the suupercharger world as well as toyota/Magnuson/TRD. not sure their exact offerings but I've only heard really good things about them.

Should I remove my ECU fuse and reset the fuel trims. the FTC came with a pre loaded fuel map and i'm not sure if I should give the ECU a clean slate or leave it.

You will be removing all power to the ECU when you disconnect the harness to install your jumper harness. Same effect as removing the fuse.

I'm interested to see what others look like, I am just starting to adjust the base tune I got from URD.

They do, it's sold mostly for the rare 5VZ-FE that has an EGR valve so the 7th injector can't be used. I think that only applied to early model year Tacomas (the 1995.5 model year) and T100's.

I have photos of my tune on my build thread if that's helpful at all but I also have a methanol injector so it's a bit wonky up top when the injector turns on.

Yep that’s it. Did all those.

Just added more timing retard and she pulls good at 2000-2500 under 3-4 lbs boost. It’s nice. However when I made the change my AFRs are now back to 14.7 in closed loop where as the base map I got from URD they were down to 13.5.

Not sure if that’s bad to be running at 14.7 when in boost or not. Still trying to figure this thing out. Any help is appreciated

Gonna be Supercharging my 1996 T100 3.4L 4WD M/T

I ended up having some dumb ass slamming into my previous t4r

Anyways I know what most are going to say about supercharging my "96" T100 that the ECU's on the 96 T100's not the 96 4Runners just wont work. Well I understand and I've lucked out and found the EXACT same ECU but from a 1997 model year T100 it has everything my truck has plus the exact same number of pins coming from the electrical harnesses. So I'm knocking on wood that if I have any issues after I install the Magnuson Supercharger is and please correct me if I'm wrong is maybe some wires from the ECU may need to switched or removed due to the fact of for example the 1997 truck's ecu had an EGR valve or something to that nature, some that would falsely cause the CEL to come on. Anyways I thought I'd post here seeing how I know nothing about Supercharging Toyotas!
Oh fyi I am gonna be running 2 step colder iridium tt spark plugs to help retard the timing plus run around a 170 degree thermostat to keep it running slightly cooler due to the added heat from the S/C. I also have an K&N FIPK CAI and a cat back exhaust system with some mid headers. P.S. the odometer may read 280K the entire engine was re done completely about 3.5 years ago and has 55K miles on it and runs strong!!! All my parts needed for my Supercharger install will be here the end of next week.
Any further help on this post I would definitely more than appreciate it! Thank you so much in advance!

I’m new to this thing. Never played around with boost and stuff. I’m old skool, only played with nitrous in my younger years. When the turbos came out in the late 90’s I sold my 10 sec honda for a family truck because of a growing family.

A lot has changed….. everything has a 700hp LS now. The 1&2 slots for the local drag club are teslas…..my mini van has almost 300hp.

I miss the OG hay days of the tuner and diesel world. Man those were good times.

It's not bad, as that's how it ran before. But there's more power to be had if you add in a little fuel without killing your MPG. The sweet spot for my engine has been to add fuel at 2 PSI into the high 13's. At 1 PSI there's no enrichment. From there it's just math. At max boost, you want 11.5-11.8. At 2 PSI, let's go with 13.8. So assuming max boost is 7 PSI, at 4.5 PSI you'll want to be at 12.8. At 6 PSI, you'll want to be at 12.3. See how that works?

Simple in process but can be tricky to dial it in. The easiest way is to tune at max boost then around 2 PSI. Then you just increase the fuel table incrementally in proportion to boost pressure and you'll be spot on.

Genuine x6 DENSO Fuel Injectors for 1993-1997 Toyota Supra Lexus GS300 3.0L I6 | eBay

They were genuine Denso injectors. Gotta be careful about that these days. The return policy and lifetime warranty was a hint they were the real deal.
