The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Just realized when I added that link for the 3.4l remanufactured Denso injectors that motor west says that the injectors are for NA engines only, not compatible with supercharged setups. Curious to know now what ones they want me to use then. From what I understand they are remade stock units, and the stock injectors are good for use with the supercharger. Confusing lol

They will work on a supercharged engine. I think what they are trying to say is they are not the 310cc ones that people like to drop in for a supercharger. It's still a 5VZ-FE engine whether it has a supercharger or not. Since you are going 7th injector, you want stock flow injectors anyway. Increased flow + 7th is way too much fuel.

Okay whew. Glad to have that cleared up. I appreciate that info. Makes sense! It confused me lol I was like But these are just reman stock ones and stock injectors are supposed to be able to be used with the supercharger. Sweet!

Good afternoon, I am installing a new Magnuson into my 98. Should I replace the coil packs or fuel injectors, or leave the stock ones in place while doing the upgrade?

It it a good time to change the spark plugs to IK22's if you purchased as part of a kit and also change the spark plug wires if they are old and it is time. The coil packs last a very long time so do not need to be replaced but you can replace the rubber coil boots to ensure a strong spark delivery.

Injectors can be serviced if you want but once again they last a long time and unless you have a reason to suspect they are broken, there is no need to replace.

Just stay on top of maintenance as the supercharger will exacerbate any existing issues you have an make them much more noticeable. The simple things: fix vacuum leaks, replace old hoses, keep fresh coolant (supercharger = more heat), change your air filter, those sorts of things. Enjoy.

I had previously replaced my coil packs, and later replaced my injectors but those are not required. I bought my supercharger with the kit URD 7th gen injector kit.

Thank you, I have searched on line and at Denso's site for the IK22s, but can't find the correct ones. Do you know the full part number by any chance?

Denso IK22 only comes in one size so if you find them, it's the right one.

I missed the part that you are installing the new supercharger with the upgraded rotors. The unit flows a more air and maxes out the stock injectors and runs leaner than the old version. You might want to look into the 7th injector from URD as that is perhaps the simplest option for tuning. The alternative is to install Supra/Lexus "blue top" injectors with air assist but that also requires installing a 190LPH or higher fuel pump.

Can you run it with stock injectors? Yes you can. Will it run better with more fuel? Yes it will.

Denso doesn’t list them as ik22s but rock auto will cross reference it for you.
You can search ik22 and it will show you the denso part and part number.

I have been shopping for used TRD superchargers (black later version) and was curious what a reasonable price range to expect for these would be?

Just wanted to let 2nd Gen Magnuson users my results of an oil change I did prematurely (according to Magnuson).
I purchased new from URD and installed my supercharger back in 2019 and have since put almost 45,000 miles on her. She has always been a little noisy, especially at idle, but was getting really noisy, especially after a prolonged road trip. So noisy that at first I was looking at other potential problems from the 4Runner (like a pulley or alternator bearing). After I eliminated those things I decided to do an oil change on the supercharger. I purchased two 4oz AC Delco synthetic supercharger oils and syringe, both off Amazon (links below). I was able to remove 4oz's from the supercharger while still mounted. I was really happy to get that amount out as it should only have approx 4.05oz's. The 4.05oz amount I got from watching Timmy the Toolman on YouTube (and Shawn of course) rebuild the snout on a 2nd Gen SC.
The oil that came out was a dark golden brown and smelled somewhat rank. I used the same syringe and put back in a little over 4oz of the AC Delco supercharger oil and man, what a difference it made! I can barely here the supercharger now at idle. I think it's quieter than when I first installed it 5 years ago!! There is no way the supercharger would have made it 100,000 miles without some kind of failure. Anyway, wanted to pass this along as it is definitely not a difficult job. I plan on making it a yearly maintenance item.

Super slow reply but like someone else said, the 2nd gens are getting cheaper and cheaper and are still a solid unit to put on and very reliable. Trouble is with the older ones is that people sell them most often when they need to be rebuilt and only off the engine so you can't test it. Lots of shady sales. They should start showing up at junkyard though.

Yeah that oil was toast! It is similar to gear oil in that when it goes, it goes rank like something died. Starts to lose its protection against wear.

For those of you that did the tuning, what are y’all running. This will be the last thing I need that will complete my install. I got a check engine light with the P0325 and I just picked up the sensors from the Stealership. My brother is a tech here in Hawaii and my dad also works at another location. Got it at cost, but still pricy for just 2 small parts.

I use a discontinued AEM FIC 6. Other ones that are used are the URD's Split Second unit, MAP3ECU, and the very pricey Haltech system. I don't think the Haltech price is worth it, personally, and the tuning is very involved.

Hey guys I just hit 300k and need to replace a bad injector. I have 1st gen supercharger with air box mod and TRD exhaust - should I mess with trying to source Supra injectors (no plans on further mods) or just get fresh stock injectors (might as well replace them all if I have to tear apart the rail and get new seals)?

Supra injectors.
Night and day difference you’ll love it.
Been running them for 4 years now zero complaints.
