Replace ashtray with something useful
Is there a mod for replacing the ashtray with a cubby of sorts? I don't need the ashtray and would like to use the place to store items or a place to keep my phone in.

Yep, skid plate bolts are totally overrated. Until I get a full set of Savages - then I will be looking for extra-security fasteners LOL. If I manage to get the Savs, I will donate the stock set to a skidless T4R.org member.

Hello folks,
Let me start by apologizing upfront if this question is in the wrong location or has been answered previously. I have been looking for bolt-on rock sliders/rails for my 1997 4Runner SR5 and have been unable to locate them. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Getting ready to do an OME 2" lift, ARB locker in the rear along with new wheels and tires and sliders would round things out nicely. Thank you in advance, Bones

I believe the shrockworks sliders are bolt on. The white knuckle offroad sliders definitely are bolt on.

Shrockworks website is down. Hope it hasn't been for long. I'm nearly 8 weeks into my lead-time on some parts.....just my luck. Hopefully it's just a coding issue and not something serious.
I'm running factory 3rd gen lug nuts (mag type lug nuts) with my 5th gen SR5 Snowflakes.
That's weird. Their website was working just fine for me yesterday when I posted that. Now it's not displaying any products once I click on them.
Quick suspension question and light rant concerning 5100 Bilsteins on 1998 and a Mavis shop. First, I used a local tire shop to install a package purchased off of Amazon. The package included rear bushings and washers but it was expected to use the oem parts for the front install. Mavis, the local shop, royally screwed up the install and I didn't know the extent until a few weeks later. The shop refused to own up to their error saying installation and parts aren't warrantied because I provided them.
Long story short, they did not use my oem parts from the original shocks, and instead used one of the washers meant for the rear shocks on the top of the front shock. They didn't install a bottom washer under the front shock's lower bushing, so the lower bushings have pushed down over the shafts. The rear shocks are simply missing the middle washer now.
Another (actual) mechanic shop is going to remove and properly reinstall all shocks, and I ordered front bushings and washers from Wheelers and new rear bushings and washers from Bilstein.
The Wheeler's kit has a set of small and large bushings and washers. My assumption is the large washer and bushing go on top, and the small bushing and washer go under the top plate. Is that correct? I just want some detail before I drop the car off. Some kits I've seen have bushings and washers that are the same size. Wheelers couldn't give an answer over the phone.
Fortunately Mavis corporate is going to foot the bill for the "repair".

For the 5100s or rears? Bushings and washers should be the same for 5100s, not mis-matched. You should confirm this with Billie to double check.
FWIW, in regards to the rears only using the end/retaining washers and no centering washer, that's acceptable. I'm currently doing this with my Tokico Blacks because I couldn't physically fit the centering washer - no threads left to start the nut. When you think about it you can see how it's not really crucial; if it was, you'd get two centering washers to put on both sides of the body, not just one.
The most important tip I can give is: stop paying others good money to f*ck up your car and grab a wrench. :fish:
It's funny that they try and say it's not their fault because they're your parts and therefore not covered, because any shop that truly has this policy will refuse to install them from the beginning and simply won't start the job until they have the parts that you ordered through their business. It's certainly a normal thing for shops to reject your parts, and it's for this exact reason; liability. It's to keep the transaction drama free, especially on their end.

Update on my 4runner: Sold my 4runner to focus on my first gen tacoma.
I wanted to invest it all in freedom pew pews to add to the collection and hunting items :50cal:
Everything I wanted to do to my 4runner I want to do to my tacoma. So that only left me one choice.
Bought the 4runner for $2600. Redid the valve cover gaskets with oem components. All oem maintenance parts. Replaced all the suspension components and brakes. About 1300 bucks in put me at 3900. Sold it for 2 grand more.
Hard to pass up a good offer.
Update on my 4runner: Sold my 4runner to focus on my first gen tacoma.
I wanted to invest it all in freedom pew pews to add to the collection and hunting items :50cal:

Now's a shitty time for guns anyways. The pandemic market is royally screwed up; 2020 has been NON STOP panic buying. It's ironically why I'm here and heavily into cars; guns are my passion and I need something else to keep me busy :heh:
I just got my S12K build back right at beginning of pandemic and had plans to finally do my PM md.90, but if you can't even find ammo (which is also 3-5x the price) then what's the point? Hell, I haven't even finished putting in a Cajun kit for my Rami and just been using my secondary as my carry for the past 10 months

Well I already had a good stock. In April I made sure to add to it. Mainly to train with. I am a target shooting enthusiast you can say. Been doing it for years for fun and just as another skill to add to my resume lol.
Same. I'm into rwd drive cars, drifting , time attack. Basically any hobby I have is expensive . I am about to put a lift in my garage for my next build. My tacoma is my current project. About to get ready to build a front and rear coastal off-road bumper + swing out!
