My Daughter asked me if I would turn it back on while she changed a diaper (103 today in Central Texas) so I obliged only for nothing to happen. .....I replaced the battery 3 weeks ago

Sudden no-starts like this always point me to the battery first. Doesn't matter if you just bought it, could have been MFG 2 years ago (I've pointed out over 5 year old "new" batteries in the racks before) and I've encountered some that died within weeks of new. So test the voltage across the terminals both key off and key on. I'll bet it's dead.

Now, as to the Reason it's dead ~ that could well be the charging system having failed so you were driving around on only battery power.

Anyway, place to start.

When the charging system fails you usually get the battery light on the dash

About to get into it. Failed to mention a couple of things last night in my piss- offedness (25 miles from home with a HF tool kit, some basic hand tools I use for work, and 2 1/2 females in the truck).
Before I called for the tow, I did consider the battery and went in to Wallymart with the 3 week old battery (Oreillys Superstart), had the (not confidence inspiring) employee test it, and couldn't get their tester to work on it. Thought that was the problem! Bought one from them (tested fine) and put it in. Same result.
Shifting into neutral, jiggling wires under the dash, jiggling the key seemed to produce a little current. With both batteries the alarm light would sometimes start flashing and the intensity of the light would vary. The seat belt chime would come on but sounded like a ticking instead of normal. Then I would turn the key and everything would go dead again. Pressing the brake pedal produced the same result.

Sounds like a poor/bad battery connection or bad ground. Turn your headlights on and see if they are bright or dim. If they are bright then you probably have an issue with the ignition switch/circuit. If they are dim then it’s probably battery connections/grounds.

Went out and tested the batteries. Both were good. Just for fun I put the key in the ignition and everything was normal. Turned it and it went dead again. Key cylinder or ignition switch is my guess at this point. Always seems that crap goes wrong at 5 pm on Fridays...

At this point I can't get to the headlights. Nothing beyond the lights without the key in (cabin lights, alarm flasher) and even then it's hit or miss when I insert the key. sometimes it dings telling me the key's in, sometimes nothing. Guessing the ignition switch or the actual lock cylinder at this point. Pulling the steering wheel after a PBJ break.

I'm sure it is here somewhere but it can be hard to find certain answers. Where is the best place to get my LBJ (prefer the whole assembly) currently?

1998 Limited 4wd, just want to have my parts here when it gets here.

You’ve got a lot of options. I usually check parts.Toyota.com, amayama.com, partsouq.com, mcgeorge Toyota, and my local dealer.

2000 Toyota 4runner SR5 AT 4x4 upgrade

If this should be posted in a different section let me know. Thanks

Hello everyone, I just got my 2000 4runner completely tuned, all fluids changed and completely detailed inside and out. (See pictures) Essentially this truck is bone stock, everything functioning, all parts installed. I had it completely detailed inside and out and had all the door dings and minor dents pulled. I have a laundry list of items I’m doing or considering doing. I plan to be able to use this rig on tough trails, no rock crawling. I’d like help and advice from the community who are better tuners than me. I’ll post some pictures soon.
1. Right now I’m changing out all dash lights with LEDs. After trial and error and watching a few YouTube videos, I’ve found the right part to upgrade the instrument cluster. Amazon.com: DODOFUN White T5 37 74 LED Bulb with Twist Lock Socket PC74 PC37 Dashboard Instrument Panel Gauge Cluster Light Pack of 10 : Automotive I recommend these LEDs as the best option. In the cluster there are 2 types of bulbs. There are small bulbs (black twist sockets) in the twist sockets that light all the D, R, N and other engine related lights. There are the 2 slightly larger bulbs for the cluster backlight (green twist sockets) both with the green rubber boots. (see picture) I’m completely doing a white light refresh. I used the same LED as above for both lights and seems to work fine. I also used these LEDs for the climate control, gear shifter, key ring light. I also found a complete refresh for other interior lights LED kit on Amazon. Amazon.com: DODOFUN Interior LED Light Kit Compatible with 1996-2002 Toyota 4Runner ( 13-pc Bulb 6000k ) : Automotive Great kit for the price.
2. After market cabin air filter. Is there any modification I can add to the intake cabin air which would allow me to install a filter box? If such an animal exists I’d love to know, order the parts and get it installed. Love to not have dirty dusty air coming in when I’m on the trails.
3. New programable fob. I tried buying an aftermarket fob on Amazon. it didn’t work. Even had a Toyota factory mechanic try. Didn’t work at all. Are there any good aftermarket fobs without having to spend $$$ at the dealer?
4. USB cigarette lighter upgrade. I want to upgrade and replace the cigarette with a USB port that will fit in the receptacle, preferably using the existing connections. Any suggestions?
5. Ashtray modification. Is there something else I can install to make better use of this space? I don’t smoke and wouldn’t in my freshly cleaned 4runner.
6. Keysets. I have a new ignition switch, original one is beginning to wear out. What is the best way to match the ignition key to match the existing door-locks so I have only one key? Can a locksmith do this easily?
7. Fluid change schedule. As I already mentioned I’ve changed every fluid during this last service. Is there a better reference for fluid changes? I want to stay on top of fluid changes because I understand it’s the best way to preserve the life of your 4runner.
8. Roof-rack. I there a more robust aftermarket roof rack out there? Should I bother dropping the headliner and upgrading to something stronger than the original?
9. Moonroof service. I found a local body shop that I know owner who has done sunroof work on a highlander and sequoia. Quoted me about $600-800 assuming nothing breaks. Still working right now, but becoming physically sticky. He will lubricate and clean all the tracking and remove any debris from the rear. I think it’s worth doing.
10. Left side oak seat post cover. I’m missing a plastic seat post cover. These pieces are becoming harder to find. Spoke with the dealer and learned Toyota is ending much parts support for 2004 is disappearing. You cannot specify the color of these pieces anymore unless there is stock remaining.
11. Seat covers. My original seats are in excellent condition. No rips, tears stains or failing materials. I want to keep them that way. I’d like to get a quality custom fit set. Any recommendations?
12. Rear center brake light. Is there an aftermarket LED replacement? Seems to be the only thing I can’t find in LED.
13. Running boards. I want to remove the running boards and replace with bumper steps to improve ground clearance. What would you guys suggest?
14. Radio. I still have the stock radio! It works but LED panel is failing. I want to put in a new iPhone compatible touchscreen unit. Then replace all the speakers and probably rewire. will be a project.
15. Finally want replace stock bumpers. ARB bumpers or equivalent is what I’m thinking. Would also like to put an integrated winch on the front. What are the other options.

I’m sure there are other threads on these topics, so just post me a link if you see one you are familiar with. Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help ahead of time.
Cheers

That's a HEAP of questions to sort through and point you to the respective threads... you might get one or two from others, I'd rather enable you to find them on your own.

Alternate Search for T4R - 3rd Gen Section

That is the best way to search for Anything. It's all been covered before, so there is 100% guarantee to be a thread on it in here somewhere.

Literally everything the OP is asking for has been covered ad infinitum, and while he's told us what he wants to do, he hasn't told us the most important parts, mileage and maintenance performed.

I would recommend cataloging all of the major and milestone maintenance items and track those so that you're upgrades align with what the truck actually needs

Lastly, my advice before you start dropping coin on mods like bumpers and winches, is to determine how you will use the truck and what its purpose will be. Use-case and purpose will determine upgrades like suspension, wheels, tires, etc

Good luck with your research, start a build thread, and have fun!

Transfer case

What are my options for upgrading a transfer case in the 3rd gens? Thanks all, I don't even know where to start looking at this stuff haha.

I'm pretty sure our only outlets are Marlin and Northwest Fab. Our drivers drop-chain driven cases don't lend itself to many options

He may want to swap from a J-shift to a center lock or MM, those are options, too

Could be looking to swap to a j shift or to a multimode. Could be looking to change gear sets (not possible). Could be looking to add a doubler. Could be looking for a beefier transfer case (atlas). Could be looking to twin stick his current one. Could be looking for different output flanges to use bigger u joints for a custom driveshaft. Could be looking to swap from 2wd to 4wd. Could be looking for recommended transfer case maintenance. Really need the question OP to narrow the playing field down if he wants a good answer.

I don't like to speculate

LOL!!! That's the whole point. Bad Luck doesn't want to speculate either, hence the NEED for actual details.
It was a joke.

No one wants to speculate, and if the OP doesn't provide any meaningful information then they get nothing. Im glad you saw the irony

Why don't you start by listing out what you have, starting with the year, model and what's currently installed (equipment) along with the mileage?

Anyone have any recommendations for replacement front struts/springs? Ideally looking for something to match the "99 tall" ride height, pre-assembled. I have found options from Monroe, Moog, FCS etc. but not sure if they're the right height or a good replacement
