That’s what I was expecting. Is there a “best” place to get a Toyota remanned rack? How do I get a rebuilt oem rack and know it was rebuilt by someone who knew what they were doing?
Try looking on parts.toyota.com for a rack. Local pickup will probably be your best option. Some online places will let you order a rack, but then will cancel the order due to shipping.

All racks sold by Toyota are backed by Toyota and go through their quality control. That's about all the reassurance you're going to get.

Thanks! Local Toyota has one on the shelf for ~$960 which includes the core charge. Fun fun.

You shouldn't have any trouble finding a rack online for $450-500ish last I checked. At that price, even with next day shipping you'd still be in the green over a local pickup

Ridiculous, but that's what dealers do with "in stock" parts

Hit up Joe Joe in the 3rd gen 4runner groups on FB. He sells Toyota racks for around $500 delivered. They come with ITREs installed.

I just copy/paste hoping someone has had to fix this before plz help

Jog my memory as to why or what issue I had posted that comment for. As for the location.
It's etcs (electronic throttle control system) in the 2001 and 2002 3rd gens. it's in the engine bay fuse box. The diagram should be on the cover indicating the location. There are also fuse schematics available online.

Hey all! I’m having some issues with my third gen and am looking for any and all advice one has to offer!

I was left stranded in the HEB parking lot the other day and tried multiple portable jump starters to no avail. It will start for half a second then immediately die, then I went back in the morning and it started after giving it a little gas the second time. Then it drove fine for a day but decided it didn’t want to start at my work, tried the portable starter again didn’t work, tried every possible method me and everyone else around me had to offer and nothing would work. Then work came to an end and my coworker who also has a third gen came out and looked at it said there’s a semi-hidden tow mount so my dad was going to tow it home for me and once we got everything hooked up, it started. No everstart, no hesitation. Ran fine all the way home. We’ve come to the conclusion that we think it has nothing to do with the battery but that there may be a problem with the alternator, fuel pump, or even a dirty fuel filter.

I’ll seriously appreciate any advice from anybody as we have no clue what to do right now. Thanks

This is kinda vague, but first, how old is your battery? Have you tested it with a multimeter? Try that as well as testing your alternator, too. Go from there. Also try an OBD2 reader to see if you're throwing any codes. Is the truck making any abnormal sounds? Had it been previously driving "normally" like it always has? Report back with your findings.

We’ve tested the battery and everything is fine with it, it’s also fairly new. Haven’t tested the alternator yet and going to run the code today. It’s not making any sounds and it had previously driven fine and when it starts up it drives perfectly fine as well.

Well that's good that you can rule the battery out. In July/August 2021, I had an issue where I installed a new battery and the next day my truck was dead. Tried trouble shooting only to discover that I needed a new alternator, despite the alt reading within proper voltage. So there's always a possibility it could be that. I threw a Denso reman in there and have been golden ever since. Hope this will be a simple fix for you. If you do need an alternator, I highly recommend a Denso reman from RockAuto, or pulling a used, OEM one from a junkyard or somewhere. Don't go aftermarket, they tend to go out quickly.

McGeorge has let people order it before and then cancelled it a few days later due to freight/shipping cost/issues. They do that with radiators too.

Oh jeez, that's shiddy... I haven't ordered anything from McGeorge in a long time, so I didn't know. That sucks though. I like Toyota Parts Deal but I haven't gotten any larger items online either.

Not real sure I have just read any detailed amswers from you. I have been trying last few weeks to trouble shoot V0500 (VSS A) wow diagram runs through cruise and ECU. vechicle Speed sensor had been replace I replaced it again some references call the rev sensor. I also changed all 4 ABS speed sensors. Several other issues not popping codes yet. I can’t clear 0500 to keep going. Symptoms rev limit of 3k no power up hill down hill can run 75 but on level 60 is it. Check engine comes on sometimes while I am trying to complete drive cycles. Pretty sure rear diff has seal leaking onto abs ring only thing I see on this truck out of adjustment. Ty for info on etcs I’m headed there now. :juggle:

Charcoal canister loud ticking after replacement

Hey all! I have a 97 limited 4x4 v6.

Just replaced the charcoal canister due to gas fumes coming from it and solved the issue.

Although now it's got the ticking issue that is so loud you can hear it in the cabin... Rig runs great and everything seems to be well other than the annoying ticking.

Any way to fix this issue? A lot of people are saying it's normal but I've not heard it so loud ever since I got the rig. Even before the issue with the fumes was present. Any way to fix this?

You can try replace the purge valve 9091012264. Some on this forum have said that it made the ticking less noisy.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it (the purge valve itself) supposed to tick some? I think i recently read somewhere that it was but I could be losing my mind also.

You are correct. The purge valve ticks when it's operating. Faulty/old ones can tick louder than they are supposed to.
