Not real sure I have just read any detailed amswers from you. I have been trying last few weeks to trouble shoot V0500 (VSS A) wow diagram runs through cruise and ECU. vechicle Speed sensor had been replace I replaced it again some references call the rev sensor. I also changed all 4 ABS speed sensors. Several other issues not popping codes yet. I can’t clear 0500 to keep going. Symptoms rev limit of 3k no power up hill down hill can run 75 but on level 60 is it. Check engine comes on sometimes while I am trying to complete drive cycles. Pretty sure rear diff has seal leaking onto abs ring only thing I see on this truck out of adjustment. Ty for info on etcs I’m headed there now. :juggle:
I should have written I am not sure where I saw the original quote. I HAVE read MANY answers you have give and they always have substance. My 2001 T4R has a different auto trans than 99 Tacoma and the Vechicle speed sensor each auto parts store wants to sell me fits the Tacoma the apparent same sensor on mine is referred to any many manuals as VSS but the sensor that fits is sold as output shaft sensor it fits secure with bigger bolt. Thanks for any different direction.trying to find auto trans diagram

Thats the odd thing. Got a new one of those too... but it came with the canister so maybe it's just a low quLity piece. Sucks because I sent back the seperate purge valve i bought not realizing it came with one haha. Back to swiping my card i guess. Thanks for the reply!

Hey all! I have a 97 limited 4x4 v6.

Just replaced the charcoal canister due to gas fumes coming from it and solved the issue.

Although now it's got the ticking issue that is so loud you can hear it in the cabin... Rig runs great and everything seems to be well other than the annoying ticking.

Any way to fix this issue? A lot of people are saying it's normal but I've not heard it so loud ever since I got the rig. Even before the issue with the fumes was present. Any way to fix this?
What brand canister did you replace it with, where did you buy it?

anyone know which silver is on a 2000 limited white/silver two-tone? Trying to grab some touch up paint
Paint and color codes are on the door sticker. Reference to what those codes are are online, or if you purchase paint from a reputable manufacturer they often reference the codes

The vss code p0500 vehicle speed sensor malfunction. It's located on the Transmission. The part number on Toyota parts site for a 2001 shows up as 8941150010. The etcs is for the throttle body control and is in use on the 2001-2 t4r's when in cruise control only. The accelerator cable controls the speed otherwise. The axle leak on the rear abs should set an abs code for that specific sensor but I am not sure if it would also set code p0500. On 2001 and 2002 a zero point calibration needs to be performed also. Hope this helps.

Note: In most cases a p0500 code would trigger vsc light and in some instances the speedo doesn't work. Good luck.

Sounds like the starter armature starting to stick out when you let off the key. Or you have a lot of keys on that key ring. Maybe both.
That's what I'm thinking. I only have about 3 or 4 keys on my key ring so I will confidently rule that out.

Do you think it would be worthwhile to replace my OEM starter with a Denso reman from RockAuto? I don't have the downtime to pull my current one, break it down, replace parts then reinstall it, due to the fact that this is my only source of transportation at the moment.

I just replaced my starter with a remaned from Toyota of Anaheim. The one on RockAuto is $139..99, the one I bought from the dealear was $140.65. My starter was sounding just like yours. I don't know if the shipping charges would be similar or quicker either way. McGeorge is $136.95.
My starter sounds great now.

McGeorge is over $200 out the door, with core fee included. I just purchased a Denso reman from RockAuto for $159.38 out the door. I'm gonna hang onto my OEM unit and rebuild it in the future. I look forward to getting rid of that awful sound. It's painful to listen to!!!

Hey all! I’m having some issues with my third gen and am looking for any and all advice one has to offer!

I was left stranded in the HEB parking lot the other day and tried multiple portable jump starters to no avail. It will start for half a second then immediately die, then I went back in the morning and it started after giving it a little gas the second time. Then it drove fine for a day but decided it didn’t want to start at my work, tried the portable starter again didn’t work, tried every possible method me and everyone else around me had to offer and nothing would work. Then work came to an end and my coworker who also has a third gen came out and looked at it said there’s a semi-hidden tow mount so my dad was going to tow it home for me and once we got everything hooked up, it started. No everstart, no hesitation. Ran fine all the way home. We’ve come to the conclusion that we think it has nothing to do with the battery but that there may be a problem with the alternator, fuel pump, or even a dirty fuel filter.

I’ll seriously appreciate any advice from anybody as we have no clue what to do right now. Thanks

I see you posted a couple of days ago so maybe you've already figured it out! Anyway, it could be that your fuel pump is going bad. If the fuel pump is bad, you can sometimes you can get it to crank by banging on the fuel tank with a rubber mallet while someone turns the key. This basically kick starts the fuel pump the same way a defibrillator gets your heart going again. It sounds crazy but I work at a diesel shop and have seen it work more than once. Like any pump once the fuel pump is going it doesn't stop pumping until you shut off the car but may not begin pumping again if it's broken. I'm not exactly sure where the fuel pump is in the tank on 3rd gens...I'd have to look that up. All the fuel pumps I've replaced are located inside the fuel tank which means you have to get the truck on a lift and drop the tank. Anyway, it you try beating on the tank while turning the key and it cranks then you can be pretty sure that it's your pump. I could be totally off on this but it's worth checking!

I'm looking at replacing the turn signal lenses on my 3rd gen. Right now they're just the factory orange ones. Does anyone have any recommendations for aftermarket ones? I'd loved some clear smoked ones if anybody knows of any. Thanks!

While they aren't smoked, they are clear. I run these on my truck and think they look extremely clean. They're DEPO brand and have a good reputation/reviews. I also have DEPO taillights. For only $32 I'd say give em a shot.

This has been briefly mentioned in the general discussions tab of the forum. Haven't gotten a clear answer on it quite yet, but a suggestion could be to try accessing the forum via the tapatalk app on your phone.
