For those of you who have done the LED retrofits from TEQ, I have a question. I ordered the headlights and they came in last week looking awesome. I've been working on installing them this morning and everything was going fine and dandy until I tried to turn on the projectors and nothing happened. I wired up my halos and they turned on no problem, but the projectors still won't come on. I've checked and know I have power going to the projectors, all of my plug connections are good, and my grounds a good. I've checked all my fuses too. If anyone has any experience with this headlight kit I'd really appreciate some troubleshooting tips. I messaged TEQ about it but haven't heard back...probably because it's Saturday. Thanks guys!
99 4Runner Limited 4wd indicator in cluster. It working
Hello all, I have just purchased a ‘99 Limited with the Locking Rear Diff. The rear diff engages as I’ve come to understand it should and the indicator in the cluster lights up accordingly. However, when I press the 4wd button on the side of the transfer case shifter the indicator in the cluster does nothing. Shifting through the different selections delivers the same result, nada. I purchased the truck this way knowingly and hoping that the issue wouldn’t be too hard/ expensive to correct.My main concern in my 4Runner search was rust/rot. I just moved to Virginia from Las Vegas, NV. The level of corrosion here has been shocking for someone who spent their entire adult life in the high desert. I managed to find one that is rust free with 126K miles in the clock.i got it for a good price I think but I suppose that is really a matter of opinion. As well as a matter of what it takes to correct the aforementioned issue. It has a good handful of cosmetic issues (interior trim, clips, a really thorough detail) as well as mechanical maintenance (belts, ball joints, door lock actuators, engine leaks) but it has the options I wanted and most of the cosmetic and general mechanical issues I can take care of myself. Where I really lack is knowing the 4wd system and what might be causing the problem I’ve mentioned. I also have a few other questions I wanted to through out if I may. There is an issue with the door lock actuation. The central locking from interior switches seems to try to work but does not. Is there common reason why this happens that I can start with in my troubleshooting journey? Which leads to the other question I have. The vehicle came with generic keys but no fobs. I believe it originally came with fobs as there is a “security” light in the center dash bezel. Am I able to buy fobs from Toyota and program them to work without have any fobs to start with? I hope that makes some kind of sense and I’ll surely appreciate any help. If I am in the wrong place for these questions I apologize. I think this is the second forum I’ve ever joined so not very experienced in the way. I suppose I should mention that prior to moving to Virginia I had an ‘89 1st gen with a 2002 Tacoma motor swapped in. I purchased everything for the swap from Off Road Solutions out of Colorado and did the swap myself with a friend of mine. Thanks to ORS it was trouble free. I loved the vehicle but I couldn’t bring it with me (this story is already too long) and I will kick myself for not figuring out a way for the rest of forever. I didn’t realize how hard it would be to find a replacement. Anyway, happy to be here, please help and thanks )

Well I actually found my problem about 20 minutes after I posted my question. One of the little wires in the new wiring harness that plugs into the projector was broken. Had to order a special wire pin connector to fix it but I'm pretty sure that's the problem. But yes, the high beam solenoid was clicking when I tried flashing the lights or flicking on the high beam. I know I've got power so hopefully fixing the wire will get everything working. Thank you!
Cold start issue
Hello! New here, but have been lurking and browsing this forum for the past two months.
Recently I bought a 97 4Runner SR5 with 218000 miles on it. Bought it knowing there was a few things that needed to be replaced (got what I felt was a good deal but time will tell) and I have been fixing them as time allows. It has ran great since I bought it and it continues to run fine.
My issue I have been experiencing is that since the temperature has been dropping below freezing at night regularly now I have had a weird phenomenon with starting the truck. When I get in after it has sat over night and put my keys in the ignition and go to start it, the first start doesn’t do anything. All I get is what sounds like something engaging followed by the sound of metal on metal grinding together. So I will let off the ignition, and when I try to start it the 2nd time it starts up just fine with no weird noises at all. It has happened just twice in the last 2 mornings and doesn’t happen again throughout the day. From what I have read on here I’m guessing it has to do with the starter and it’s components or the flex plate/fly wheel. But I’m just not so sure where to start with actual diagnosis or testing.
I have watched just about all of Timmy’s repair videos as well, just because I have become hyper fixated with learning about my truck haha.
If anyone has any pointers or directions to head I would very much appreciate the help.

Most recently it started acting up when it got cooler outside (~60°F so not that cold) and it takes quite long for the engine to heat up, even though I replaced the thermostat recently. Sometimes it will even fire up for split second only to then immediately fail again. I have recently replaced spark plugs, coils, etc.
I am sharing all this because I believe it is a bad starter and planning to replace it soon, but I wanted to share this info with y'all to see if anyone has seen this before and has a different diagnosis. I have seen things like EFI/Fuel Pump relay and fuel pressure issues, but am not sure they fit my scenario.

Is your issue the starter not engaging and rotating the engine or an extended crank before ignition is achieved?
It takes me about 5 miles/10ish minutes driving in 30-40*F ambient temperatures to reach 188*F engine coolant temperature and get warm cabin heat. It usually takes a few more minutes after that to get hot cabin heat.

I had similar symptoms before my fuel pump died on me but I could see it being starter contacts too. Not entirely sure how to troubleshoot your issue but starter contacts are cheap to do, it’s just removing the starter that kinda sucks!
I believe it is the starter not successfully turning the engine. It will revv a few times before failing or "powering down". When I turn the key over, it will only revv for 2-3 seconds max before it fires up or fails. I reckon fixing the contacts would be the first thing to do before throwing out the whole starter.

Sounds more like a weak battery than bad contacts

Maybe not, battery with a dead cell will show good volts till load is applied.
