285/70s on 3rd Gen?

Hey guys. First thread here, but not my first Yota. I've had several, including my first car, a '69 Corolla. I've had Corona wagons, an MR2, and most recently a '98 Taco, but my question is about my '97 Two-runner. I need tires and am already into repairs in a big way. Rather than blow another $800 right now on tires, I was offered some 285/70 17" rims and tires. Diameter looks to be 32" but I am running stock height.

Currently I have 265/75R 16" on the truck, and I like the size, but for $200 these would get me by until I can spring for a new set of shoes. I don't want to buy them if they aren't going to fit - again, no lift on it at the moment, but just driving on road for now. Appreciate any guidance and am really glad I found this resource!

If you use the google search bar here and scroll down a bit to the t4r.org forum-specific results you'll find a bunch of threads asking about things like "Will 33" fit on stock suspension?". There are other variables like the BS/offset on the 17" rims the 285s are on (clearing the stock UCAs, etc) so there really isn't a definitive answer. Are the wheels from a 4th Gen? My feeling is you're gonna get some rubbing at full lock and if you flex the suspension, some more rubbing. People flatten the fenderwell pinch-weld with a hammer and hub-centric spacers can help clear the UCAs (but may cause other fenderwell rubbing). The fronts are the main issue. Can you 'try them on' first? I'm just throwing some things out there - there are folks here who know what they're talking about and hopefully they drop by.....

You'd need to drill/punch/cut/whatever a thermostat so that the outer ring can hold the gasket. Is AAA and towing out of the question?

I ended up making a gasket out of some felpro gasket material i found at autozone. The reason I couldn't AAA/tow is because I'm not sure where the car's gonna go just yet but I wanted options because it's taking up a nice person's driveway >_<

Hey all. I was the smart guy here and tried to install a computer 920S remote starter. Cut a few wires and then eventually got overwhelmed, soldered the wires back together and this is where I get the problems.
Everything starts up fine no long crank etc. my radio (aftermarket boss radio) dome lights and clock do not turn on what so ever, I tried replacing the 15amp fuse in the fuse box and that didn’t work. Hoping to get some information out of this.

So I checked the rear defroster on our 2001 Lexus with the 5 year rear window - mirrors hit 110F within a few minutes, but the rear glass only got to about 49F on a 44F day, sad!

I found this tidbit, not sure how reliable it is, that a rear defroster is supposed to get to 85F - Defroster Repair and Troubleshooting Guide – Frost Fighter & Clear View

Maybe someone with a more recent vehicle than my old fleet can confirm .

So to close the loop and hopefully help others - I got the new rear glass put in, and the defroster performs much better. A fogged up window gets cleared up within a minute or two. And after 10 minutes, the grid gets up to about 70F (on a 45F day), way better than before.

I also got to have a look at the inside of the tailgate, and the where the bolts for the license plate bezel are, so I'll do that project eventually.

Found it laying on top of the fuse box cover. Don't remember removing ithe hose or placing it there.

Can you change W59 output shaft seal without taking it apart?

I searched hi and low but couldnt find a decent answer...

My w59 (2wd, 3-RZ) is leaking like a faucet out of the rear of the transmission. Can you change the output shaft seal with the trans in the car or pulled out of the car but not disassembled?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hey guys.

I am thinking about upgrading to a koyo rad full aluminum radiator in the future but since the radiator made for our trucks by koyo doesn't have a built in tranny cooler like the OEM one does that means I need to install an external cooler. But I wanted to do that anyways so the radiator is a good excuse for that. I plan on buying the iconic fab bracket kit and use either the Hayden 678 or 698 ( bypass one) cooler. Question I have is whether I should get the bypass one or not. I live in socal where it rarely reaches cold temps lol. Even though I don't live in a cold climate at all would there be a benefit to getting the bypass one anyways? Or should I just stick to the regular non bypass one. I feel like im overthinking it lol. Thanks!

Help needed finding turn signal harness side connector

New to the forum, but not able to post a thread yet. Turn signal fuse keeps blowing on used 2001 I just bought. Found Driver side turn signal connector that plugs into bulb socket gone, they just pushed the pins on the bulb socket. Any idea where to find the part number?

Is it correct that these axle housings are all the same and 2wd/4wd doesn't matter? The only thing I need to watch out for is that it has ABS?

2001-2002 has a different hard brake line configuration than previous years. As far as I’m aware, that’s the only exception assuming you’re differentiating a 1996-2000 non elocker axle housing from an elocker housing since there is a notch in it.

Shifting to L4L

New owner of a '99 with the button/lever style 4WD shifter. When I shift from H4L to L4L using the procedure indicated in the owner's manual, I feel a bit of gear chatter (like shifting without a clutch in a manual transmission.). Not a lot, but enough to make me worry that something isn't syncing up right. I feel the same thing when I shift from N to H4L. Is this normal?
