The Adventure Rig - TRD OR Build!

Took the rig out for a quick run with the new suspension, and may have overdone it a bit. Ended up with my eccentric cam bolt loosening up and backing itself out. Managed to get it tightened back up, but immediately ordered some cam tab gussets from Total Chaos and have those scheduled for install in a few weeks.

Once the suspension settled, the front was a bit too low for me and was causing quite a bit of rubbing up front. Headed back later that week to get the front raised up a bit. During the adjustment we noticed one of my upper control arm uniballs was on it's way out. Ended up picking up a set of beefy UCA's from Freedom Offroad later that day and throwing those in.

Started the weekend off with some of the smaller projects..

First off, replaced the old magnetic phone mount with one able to withstand some offroading. Ram X grip!

Picked up some yellow film tint and started with the roof bar, and then the lower bumper bar. Getting some gnarly glare on the white hood with the roof bar, was hoping this would reduce some of that. Not sure how much I like the visual look of it, but if it works that's all that matters.

Got my Timbren bumpstops and it was time to switch out this old Lexus bumpstops. Excuse the dust, need to wash. Got them on without having the remove the wheels which was nice.

From there, I moved onto the rear lights. The old cubes never sat right with me and were starting to become an eye sore. Opted for some slimmer and brighter replacements. This also gave me a chance to clean up some of the wiring from 3 years ago, which was much needed.

Your photos are amazing! How do you like the fox dsc? I’m thinking to go with these over the kings because of the option for high and low speed adjustments.
 
Time has flown by! Anyways, not much has changed on the rig, but some more parts are on the way as we speak!

Went out for Memorial weekend for a quick 2 night trip. Winds were absolutely brutal with gusts up to 40mph. Definitely was not the most relaxing weekend, but much needed.

A few days ago we received this new beast of a fridge from Setpower! 80qt's means there's no shortage of space considering we used to bring two fridges on longer trips, and now we only need this single one!

One of the incoming parts is a new awning/room setup. Our ARB combo is on it's last life and not quite what we were looking for. While we are still waiting for the awning, we did get our new awning room. Hoping to get the new awning put on soon and comparing them!

Just because the car adventures have been slow doesn't mean I haven't been staying home! Spent nearly every weekend this month on the water. Headed back out this weekend can't wait.

Just arrived! Had some time this afternoon and decided to go ahead and throw it on the rig!

I am already liking the longer length and will enjoy the extra shade. I was worried it would extend pretty far past the front of my rack but it is not as bad as I thought! I backed it all the way towards the rear, yet allowing enough space to fully open the hatch. I was worried about not being able to open my front door once the awning room was on seeing out it lines up right with the middle of my drivers door, so we decided we might as well try it out now. That was one issue we had with the shorter ARB awning, it made it hard to have access to both doors.

The LED light strip on the tracks was another feature our ARB was lacking so that was a nice addition. Easy plug and play, and comes with a dimmer switch!

Another angle, only attached one velcro strap on either side. Our old ARB awning velcro was completely messed up and would not hold and was tearing out at some parts. Everything just feels so much more solid.

Here's the room! No floor and not staked obviously. The extra space inside will come in handy for sure. The removable floor will make cleaning a piece of cake. Inside we were able to access both doors.

One of the selling points that we didn't get around to was using the outer room wall as an awning with the extra poles we picked up. Now we can have both the awning and room whereas before we could only have one or the other!

Another day another small project. Heard a lot about these seat jackers, and have always felt like something was off about the seats on the 4runner. Picked up a pair for the front on my driver's side just to try them out and see if they make a difference! Will have to post an update down the road after I get some time behind the wheel.

Ignore the mess, haven't had time to vacuum in a while. Install is as easy as it gets. Just a 14/15mm socket needed and some loctite. Take off the front two bolts and loosen the rear bolts, slip them in, and tighten back up!

Minor updates, the last two vacations were without the rig. Spent a week in Maui, Hawaii and another in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. I have to say that Banff NP was probably the most incredible place I have ever been to and the top on my favorite national park list.

Car stuff has been slower lately, a lot of smaller changes, nothing post worthy. We did a short trail run to Lyttle Creek the other weekend which was a blast. While attempting to air down a friend, the MORR flate chuck would not seat properly on his valve stems. Turns out they have released an upgraded set, they also happened to be on sale so I snagged those and swapped them out!

Swapped out the CB to a Midland GMRS. Much happier and much more usable with everyone.

After wanting to mix it up for the last few weeks, finally pulled the trigger. Going a little bigger and getting new shoes for the new year! Decided that 35's were going to be just a bit more than I wanted for now. Opted for Yokohama M/T 34's as a upgrade to our current KM3's. A hair skinnier but a little taller. Wasn't planning on regearing, more cutting/trimming, and wanted less strain and less headaches. Ended up shaving a few pounds off with these compared to the KM3's, and might even help a bit on the mpg not that it matters at this point. Just waiting on the new wheels which should be here any day and then it's install day!

you gonna love dem tires man...

Only warning is they are a true 34, so you might have to extend your front bump stops. I made my passenger fender bow outwards after G'ing out on a woop (w/o extended bump stops).

To this day, I have rubbing issues when I do full panic stops, but cant figure out where its rubbing.

I got one more question....I notice that you aren't running the tire carrier pin that should sit in the hole next to the spindle on your rear bumper. I'm wondering if shrockworks didn't send it to you or something?

Mine ended up sheering off anyways, the tension on the swingout bolt is enough to keep mine in place.

Yeah I have swapped out the front bumps to a slightly taller option, but not sure if it is enough. Will have to test once I get them mounted up.

Yup, Shrockworks never sent the pin and was impossible to get a hold of to get one or even buy one. Like mentioned above, it doesn't really move once its open and takes a decent amount of effort to actually swing it, even on inclines/declines.
 
Two days ago, got an update that the wheels were going to be delayed. I had planned on getting them mounted today but it was going to have to wait until next week. Suddenly 4/5 showed up at my door this morning surprisingly! Decided I would need to make two trips to bring the old wheels back since they won't fit inside in one trip, and went ahead and got 4 of them mounted this afternoon! Spare can wait, and I will have to go when that last wheel shows up.

Wheels may not be everyone's flavor, as always, but these have grown on me so quickly. If you asked me a year ago about getting silver/machined/polished wheels I would say absolutely not. Over the last few months I kept seeing more and more builds and it totally changed me and I fell in love with them. Had to stick with my Black Rhino's as always and when I found out about these I knew they were the ones. There was a clean 4th Gen build, cannot remember whom it was, but they were the ones that sold me on it. Anyways old wheels and tires are going up for sale if you are in SoCal!

Also, received this washer "skid plate" from All Pro offroad. Hoping I won't have to relocate the tank, but we will see. Easy install, simply unbolt front body mount nut and slide it on and replace! Sprayed it with a nice silver since it was going to be visible might as well make it look decent. May have made it a bit too noticeable lol

polished AL wheels definitely making a comeback. If they made f5's in polished aluminum i'd be all over it...

I also bought a bunch of 2 inch padded hose clamps to finally get my butt to install a table on my shocks tire carrier, i'll let you know how that goes.

Always loved the F5's. Not gonna lie I was pretty close to getting something somewhat similar to that if you want another option...

Not quite the same, but I was really digging these for a while. Felt they were a bit too close to my old wheels and really wanted something different.
 
yeah buddy! polished/machined wheels are classy. I run machined racelines on my ford. whenever the toyota gets wheels they'll be machined or polished for sure.
