The Lean (Yeah, I Know)

The KDSS lean's root cause is that the KDSS piston is located on the left and the RH side is attached with a dogbone.

The solution is to get some longer bolts and make a spacer to extend the length between the top of the dogbone and the sway bar (and risk clearance issues with the skid place?)... or you can use an asymmetrical body lift.

I ended up doing the Bilstein 5100s with OME 884s up front and toytech SuperFlex 2.0’s in the back. I think it looks great but I hadn’t accounted for the fact that the stock suspension already had 140k miles on it and it was sagging a bit. The end result was an lift of 3.75” in the front and 3.25” in the back.

The 4Runner is my wife’s DD and really didn’t want it too stiff which is why we did the Superflex springs in the back. We both love the new ride! Nose drive and body lean decreased and the ride is actually smoother on paved roads and forrest roads. Off road (light trails) I don’t notice a big difference in the ride but the clearance is SOOO much better.

The lean: This 3.75/3.25 lift is measured on the passenger side- driver side was exactly 0.5” lower in front and in back. It was dead level before he lift. It leans enough that I can notice but only when I am looking for it.

Side-Specific Factory Coils?

Hi all,

2021 SR5P 4WD.

I've been casually researching information the 'driver side lean'.

I've run in to various posts online suggesting the front factory coils are specific to the driver and passenger side, supposedly indicated by paint markings on the coils.

I recently had 5100s installed front and rear, kept factory coils.

This made me concerned whether or not my coils were placed properly post installation.

I can clearly see the markings on my coils, but I am unsure if they are indeed on the correct side.

I've spoken with the shop, and they are also unsure of this placement. Though they did indicate their method is to change one wheel at a time.

The two front springs do appear to have unique part numbers when looked up by VIN.

After reading through many, many posts, I have yet to find a definitive answer on what the paint markings mean. The markings also seem to differ by model and or year.

Is anyone able to confirm definitively, please, whether or not the paint markings mean anything? If they do indicate placement, what that proper placement would be on a 2021 SR5P 4WD?

I would love to have some peace of mind on this concern, and any information is greatly appreciated.

I did just that a couple of years ago, simple put them side by side and you will one is taller than the other. The taller one goes in the driver side.

Thank you for your comment. I have seen the difference in height indicated in another thread. However, my springs are already mounted, and getting a side-by-side view is not feasible.

For this reason, I am hoping someone is able to confirm the meaning of the paint markings for a 2021 SR5P 4X4, if they mean anything at all.

I have seen indications in other threads

• that the green/white should be on the driver side

• that the green/white should be the taller of the two springs

• the red/white would have (1) more coil wrap than the green/white, indicating a softer spring.

My trouble is this is difficult to confirm anywhere.

While I have confirmed there are two unique part numbers for my VIN, no dealership I have called has the parts in stock, is able to provide any information regarding the paint markings or the springs being side-specific.

Before asking the shop to swap them, I would like to confirm, if possible, that it's actually necessary. I only want my car to be set up as it's supposed to be.

EDIT** Got a definitive answer from a dealer. I hope this helps anyone who's in the same boat with these particular part numbers for a 2021 SR5P 4X4.
