The LFD Off Road Thread

How are you guys mounting awnings on the crossbars?

Just wondering. LFD sells the solution that hooks up to the stock roof side rails, but I'm wondering if there's anyone using a different solution.

Thanks!

Looking for feedback on crossbars/fairing combo. How much of a difference in wind noise/turbulance over the factory rack with rails combo at highway speed or with sunroof open.

Just chiming in and offering my experience with LFD..

Immediate response on Instagram regardless of day or time. I order the 4th gen front skid, which he sent me a discount code and took it to an Overland Rally for me so my buddy could bring it back from NC-FL and I wouldn't have to pay shipping. Sent me an extra set of hardware to compensate my diff drop free of charge. Customer service is awesome and the product is great. I will be buying more LFD products in the future; battery tray, rack, and any more 4th gen armor. One of my 5th gen buddies (@NoboOverland on Instagram) has his front skid and just ordered his front bumper.

Hope this helps anyone who is on the fence.

Night and day difference, even at lower speeds.

With just the aluminum bars (I have 4 of them evenly distributed front to back) and factory base, anything above 40 MPH it was very noticeable, highway speeds sounded like a hurricane. Added the faring and it is quiet again. I had to play around with the height on mine some to keep it from rubbing, and still need to fine tune it to lower it back down, but it is quiet. Maybe a little more noisy than just the base bars with no cross bars at all, but not much.

I don't have a sunroof, so no input on that aspect.

I did just get the vibration problem at speeds above 78, so I'll have to deal with that, but the new fairings are supposed to address that issue.

Can you come up with a windshield mount for a 50" straight bar, or 52" curved bar, for a 5th gen with a snorkel with a prefilter? :biggrin2: And a full length roof rack. Can't find anything....

Yeah, should be changed this spring. We do still have about 8 sets of 3/4 side rails in stock for non-sunroof people, but we did take the racks off the site. We first measured the 3/4 out on a non-sunroof 4R, and made it about 4" too long for sunroof versions.

Hey Jacob - you guys still thinking about a "3/4" version for us sunroof-types?

Last time I looked they had one on their site, just not aluminum.

I have a sunroof but decided on the 7/8 aluminum rack. Ordered a few weeks ago so hoping it ships soon. From what I read it doesn't impede functionality - though I do believe I'll have a crossbar/fairing going across the middle of the glass. But I'm good with it.

We just had the revised 3/4 test fit last week. Its good to go, and we just got a bunch of the new 3/4 side rails in stock. Just waiting on the faring crossbars to come through production now, but the complete 3/4 racks will be back up on the site probably next week.

Good to know

Top side view of full rack...i used some rustoleum hi temp spray paint on the hardware and so far it’s held up well. In addition, I used some rubber door trim from amazon along the lower edge of the wind fairing, similar to the Prinsu, and there is virtually no wind noise.

I look forward to this release. I spoke with an ambassador here in San Antonio and he had an amazing set up.

I can't wait to install mine. Currently deployed on the other side of the planet but look forward to come home in a couple months to a pile of parts to install and make my cross country trek to the westcoast. Thank you everyone for your questions, posts, and pictures. Definitely made my decision on a 7/8 aluminum rack a no brainer choice when I get a moment for some stable internet connectivity to submit my order.
