Anyone have any experience with the minimalist roof rack? I just ordered mine and haven’t seen a ton of reviews. Love to hear some opinions/issues/etc

What is a 'minimalist roof rack'?

If you are referring to the 3/4 rack, I've had mine for over 2 years now and it is great.

If you are referring to the 3/4 rack, I've had mine for over 2 years now and it is great.

Minimalist is two cross bars that bolt into the OEM bolt locations in the roof, no side rails, etc.

After installing my CVT Mt. Hood to the LFD Full length rack 2 weeks ago, I do wish I would have just replaced my full rack with the minimalist, it would have made the install MUCH faster, but since I used the full length rack I can still have stuff bolted to the rack in addition to the tent.

I haven't owned a 4Runner a full week and already looking to mod!

I did add Cooper tires yesterday, and just a matter of time before I add a bumper front and rear.
Didn't take long to see that for my use, with one exception, the LFD rear bumper is top on the list....just love the tire on the driver's side!
For my use the only competitor is Victory because they also have the ladder on the other swing away; that's the exception to me totally liking the LFD dual swing away.
So I'm wondering if a ladder can be added to the non-tire swing away on the LFD ???
That's the beauty of the Victory swing away with ladder. It also allows popping on Rotopax, tools, whatever.

Can someone get a measurement from the roof to the top of the LFD crossbars please? I have LFD crossbars on my OEM rack now and I am looking at getting LFD siderails, but I don't want to lose any more overhead clearance if possible.

Our side rails add about 2" of height compared to using the stock side rails and crossbars.

Should I be able to mount a crossbar in one mounting hole in the side rails (see red square in pic)? Currently, the carriage bolts just barely do not fit. They go in but the square part of the bolt makes the bolt slightly pop out and not sit flush. I could get non-carriage bolts and it would fit, but if there is a structural or safety reason for not being able to use one hole, I would not want to do that. Moreover, the bolts provided should fit.

It is about 4 1/2 inches from the weather stripping to the top of the side rails. The cross bars stick up about 1/8" above that.

Thanks for that picture- sadly it confirms what I suspected, which is that I would need to unload everything before I pulled into the garage.

I'll let LFD respond regarding if they are making a swing arm ladder; but I can tell you that a hatch-mounted ladder will fit with the bumper

This is the minimalist roof rack. I love the look and I’m hoping I might see a little better mpg with the weird basket rack off my truck. Hopeful to pull the trigger on an rtt in the spring.

I’m very curious as this was a question I had asked about a few years ago, but nothing like this existed then.

I mounted it on Christmas Day so I haven’t had the chance to use it for anything yet. Other than the looks the only thing I can say about it is it took all of 20 minutes to mount them. I’ll post when I can get some actual usage out of it.

I may be an idiot here, but does the radiator plastic splash guard fit under the LFD front skid right here? Edit* Also, are there any torque specs for the transmission/transfer case skid bolts? Seems as if I can just keep tightening them and I do not want to break the bolt.

I don't know that there are torque specs, but I just used anti-seize and gave them 1-2 ugga-duggas

(i have the RCI metal splash guard, which fits, but it looks like the plastic one fits so not sure i understand the question

I don't know the answer on the plastic splash guard either. I had to ditch mine long before I got skid plates or a new bumper.

LFD sells awning mount points for their cross bars. When did you order? I’m anxious to get mine.

I ordered during BF 2020 and received about a week ago.

Just saw the awning mounts, they look like just simple L brackets.

I tucked the splash guard under the lip of the skid and it fits perfectly. Looks way better too! Too bad I cant get my picture to be right side up.
