We haven't looked into a window panel yet because out here on the tight east coast trails we run, that's just asking for a broken window or damage.

Hey now, I've never broken a window... and I am pretty sure there are just a few new light scuffs on the front bumper from Big Creek 2 weeks ago... But I know I definitely wouldn't want to go through there or other trails with more hanging off than the awning, and even that has gotten in the way a few times

Makes sense, our trails don't seem to be as tight here. The main selling point for me would be that I could store trax boards/rotopax on the sides when upgrading from the cross bar package to a 7/8 rack. Sure I could go full, but that would require entirely new cross bars and that defeats the purpose of scaling the crossbars up to the larger rack. Just a thought!

I have the Ironman 2.5m awning on stock rails with LFD crossbars. No issues, other than a slight bounce on rough 4x4 roads. Never caused any problems though. The quick release brackets are amazing, takes 15 seconds to take it off and store it in the garage.

Thanks for the feedback, can you post some pictures of the brackets and how did you mount them to the crossbars?

The one thing I had to do is to make the two holes I used for the L bracket that came with the awning bigger (to fit the LFD hardware). I think it was 5/16 if I remember right. Steel was hard so it took a while to make the hole bigger. I mounted it with the outermost 2 holes so that the awning was out as far as possible. The awning then just sits on top. The back is secured by a Brinks lock I got at Wal Mart and the front is secured with what came with the quick release awning, a pin. You can put a second quick release bracket on the passenger side if you want and it is easy to move from driver to passenger, but the awning will stick out in the back (because of the 3/4 roof rack). To solve that you would have to add a 3rd quick release on the awning itself (not on the mounting brackets, just the awning). I plan on doing that but I haven't yet. I still don't know if it would work or not. I may have to put 2 quick releases on the awning as I doubt the middle one is exactly half way.
I also have the tent that goes with the awning. It is pretty cool, but heavy and bulky. I have used it and put an XL cot inside and fit perfectly.

Thank you that helps a lot. I'm personally still undecided between 4' and 6' awning, how often do you actually use it?

I would think a 4' awning would be pretty dang small. Wouldn't be too good unless the sun was above you. I haven't used it a whole lot but I just put it on this summer. I will probably use it more often this year. I like the light strip it has too, great for sitting under at night. Once I get the passenger side set up I won't have to move around as much to avoid the sun. I think it was worth the price for the awning. Not sure about the tent yet.

my Hilift is a little rusty, but the mounts are easy to use so I just remove it when I'm not offroading
Got a great deal on these LFD crossbars. Was able to mount the traction boards using carriage bolts and plastic knobs for easy removal. I noticed the LFD website doesn’t offer full length rails, any idea of this will be a future option?

I have the same setup. I am planning on adding a 4gallon rotorax and some traction boards. The wind fare sounded like it was coming through the roof though.

Just update on my LFD full roof rack, it was rusting pretty bad after roughly a year (steel version), so I contacted them and they sent me out two aluminum side rails no cost. I noticed that all their roof racks say “rust free” in the description which I thought was odd. They definitely had a horrible batch from powder coating as all my cross bars are completely rusted and chipping powder coat, i might just scrap the entire rack and just get their overland crossbars as i have a roofnest falcon installed, and Roam awning.
