Greetings gentlemen-
Wondering if there are any monthly (or other regularly scheduled) get-togethers (GTG's) up in our "The Valley" area? Over on ExpoPortal there used to be a regular 4x4/Overland GTG in Orange County open to all vehicle types (saw some cool stuff).... hoping to find something similar up here.

Nothing yet, I have a leveling kit sitting in the box at home that I want to install, I just don’t have tools or a place to do it anymore. I moved to an apartment. Tires are coming soon, went with 275/70/17 BFG Ko2’s. I have a pair of rigid duallys mounted on the bumper since I took off the front plate the two holes were bugging me. so I thought those would be a good fill in lol And yea I have tons. I had two Hummer H3s and was super involved with the hummer community years ago but life changed and I sold them and got a commuter car and focused on new priorities!

There is a small group of us that get together about once a month, usually for a day trip or some weekend camping trip as of late. I know we did big bear last month. PM me if you'd like to be included on the next run!
Mind if I join in on this also? My suspension comes in today so I’m going to be anxious to take it out soon!

Rowher or Hungry Valley
Ok, so I'm planning to go out wheeling next Saturday, 19 January. Depending on the responses here, we will either be doing Hungry Valley or Rowher Flats. Anybody who is interested in wheeling that day, let me know on here or send me a PM. I will keep this thread up to date on RSVP and definite location and time.

What’s the difficulty level of either of these trails? My suspension is being installed on the 14th so this would be my first trip out with it. Also would sliders or skids be necessary?

Rowher has a lot of different things to do, one black diamond trail, I did it bone stock, so you should be ok with whatever you have. Hungry valley has a real nice mix of different trails and varying difficulty. Sliders and skids are always nice to have, don't think they're entirely necessary for either of these locations

Welcome! This run will be a good one to get your tires dirty, neither site is too treacherous, though TBH I'm most familiar with rowher. If you're interested in getting dirty, join us!
Hungry Valley is great for all levels. I first went out there in my 2wd Ranger on 32s, open diff, with no issues. Then there is the testing grounds with different levels to try. I went there a handful of times and never came close to touching all that area. There are also a couple cool trails at the next off ramp north past the Flying J, but it has been at least a decade since I have hit them, may not even be open anymore...

I'm definitely interested in joining. I'm on stock tires. Will I be fine? What should I bring with me? I'm new to going off-road.
I’ll be running stock tires to on mine too, if you have the Dunlop at20’s like I do, don’t expect to much from them. If you read the reviews on tirerack they are 2 stars out of 780 reviews. Everyone says they suck (they do) but it will be fine at hungry valley, none of the trails are super tough and it will give you a great entry into the off road atmosphere. There’s nothing you really will need to bring other than a full tank of gas, if you want to invest into a good recovery strap that would be useful and good to keep in your rig at all times. Other than that just show up and have fun!

I got my 4Runner after driving a Hummer H3 for 8 years. Got up to 200k miles in it, then a string of items needed to be replaced and I decided it was time to get into a Toyota.

Here is the check in information for this Saturday:
Due to weather conditions this week, we will be heading to Hungry Valley. Lots to do at varying degrees of difficulty, this will be a good run for beginners and advanced alike. We will be using ham radio for comms, strongly recommend bringing one with you. I have a spare I can lend out. If you have recovery gear, always a good idea to bring it when you're wheeling. Straps, boards, a jack, some tools, a compressor. I always go with all of the above.
We plan to be out most of the day, a lunch might be a good idea to bring. We will, of course, take the day as it comes, but plan on a full day of fun and mud.
We will all be meeting up at 10am at the Carl's Jr off the 5 freeway in Gorman. There will be signs. Once we have everybody, it's off to Hungry Valley. Entry fee is $5 at the gate, don't think they take credit cards. If you are going to attend, please quote this post in your response.
