The new 3.5L 6/sp out pull the Canyon Diesel.

I know right?

Watching a bunch of engineers and technical people argue over this is entertaining and yet sad. I got a new Mtn bike, it's red and very pretty, I'm sad because it snowed last night. Oh well, I will just go ski all weekend, 1st world problems.

Sorry for being an ignorant dumbass, but why would anybody buy either of the Tacoma or Canyon or any middle sized pickup truck if they are towing large trailers in the mountains?

Wouldn't you want a full-size pickup truck, and even among those, extended cab and long bed? I am too lazy to go looking for it, but I recall someone making a post about a shorter wheel-base is better for off-road for ground clearance, and a longer wheel base is better for towing, perhaps because the engine is way out in the front keeping the front wheels down. A vehicle can't be great for off-road and great for towing?

1st world problems, perfectly said.... How about a Fat Bike for the snow towed behind a Taco or Canyon?

Skipped work and went out yesterday. It was horrible...

Jetboy, my conscience is urging me to let it be, but out of morbid curiosity I must ask, have you even driven the diesel GM (either the Colorado or the Canyon)?

Have you even driven the new Tacoma?

Or are you basing all of your "expertise" regarding the two platforms on the TFL videos you watched?

Tacoma yes. I own a 3.5L/6sp also in an rx350. But it has 4.40 gears, so I guess it would be a lot faster.

I don't think the GM salesman will let me hook up a heavy trailer. If anyone around Utah has one, I'll put my 4runner up for a challenge. We can find a trailer and see which one will pull it up one of our canyons faster. I think we should make it interesting though and go with something more like 10k lbs. We could put a 3 yards of sand in a dump trailer, should get just north of 10klbs and we could find out which one can pull it up a canyon.

Since I derailed it anyway and just had an outstanding day on the Mtn. Tilt your head, posted from my iPhone. Jetboy

Was curious, so I charted the Canyon's diesel vs the 2GR-FE. Haven't seen the 2GR-FKS on the internets yet, but the FE should be pretty similar.

Despite the big difference in peak horsepower, which most of us were have already acknowledged, that graph pretty much illustrates why someone would choose a small turbo diesel over a naturally aspirated gas V6 for towing and mpg...the difference in low-end horsepower (up to ~ 3800 RPM) is significant and definitely favors the duramax.

The 3.5L gasser has its inherent advantages, but IMO the duramax makes more sense for hauling and towing duties.
