I just noticed your dual exhaust setup and don't see many (if any on t4r?) 3rd gens with dual exhaust. What're you running, straights, si/do, dual mufflers? A sound clip would also be awesome if it isn't too much trouble!

there ya go. its not as "raspy" as the video makes it sound, its actually quite mellow, infact i dont think it sounds any different than guys with a single dump... fwiw

That's some serious lighting on your rig, Kid.

I've always liked how your 'Runner looks w/the 285's and no lift, too. I used to have an '84 truck like the one in your pictures there. It wasn't in nearly as nice of shape as yours, but it was a tough truck. Yours is cool though... very old school, from the wheels to the roll bar in the bed, to the OEM graphics on the hood/bedsides. I like it.

that 85 is an amazing truck, the front got painted about 15 years ago when some old lady pulled out in front if it... so thats why the doors dont have the OEM graphics anymore(idk how the hood survived but it did). so the fenders are new but everything else is OEM, i put the roll bar in last year($40 craigslist) after i had a spray in bedliner done, then found the 6x9 KCs for $100 on craigslist to go with it. its got the 4" rancho lift that was a factory option in 85(father inlaw bought it new in 85 and its been in the family ever sense), its got 260k+ on the clock, LCE head and over sized pistons, K&N filter, and cat back exhaust. its FJ60 vented rotors, and v6 calipers, with dirty 30 front axles, and warn hubs(the factory auto locking hubs gave up the ghost at 245k. the father inlaw just rebuilt the trans two years ago and i had him put in a centerforce dual friction clutch. i put in some LED rock lights for night wheeling. it was my first SAR rig, hence the light bar, but its still a great "fall back" truck and second car, i wouldnt hesitate to drive it cross country tonight if i had to. it needs a locker or two though, and some armor...

well i saw this thing about 3 weeks ago on craigslist and wanted it so bad but didnt have the cashs(the guy was asking $200), and anyhow the guy is selling his 4runner and bought a new fender cause his old one had a dent in it and didnt want to drill a hole in the new fender so put this up for sale separately. well when i saw the add posted a second time i responded and told him i wanted the snorkel, but had to wait for my tax return. he said he would hold it so i no issues giving him his full asking price. then i got a some extra money back from a loan to a friend almost a year ago(wasnt expecting to ever see it again) and so cost to me out of pocket was only $100, the prefilter is over $100 just by it self. anyhow its going on my rig tomorrow. the guy even threw in the hole saw bit he bought when he originally installed it.

his runner is a silver 2001 SR5 with 137k and ARBs F/R w/4.88 gears, TRD Tundra front coils with OME 890s and OME shocks. an ARB front bumper with a Warn M8000. just had the TB and WP done and put on brand new 285 dura tracs. he replaced the radiator recently and put in a external trans cooler as well. hes asking $11900. i have a friend whos been looking for one ever sense she totalled her defender 90 last year on mt hood, and so shes buying it from the guy. personally with as clean as his rig is, and what he has done to it, i dont think is is too far off with his asking price. to me it seams vary fair and reasonable. its a middle aged guy so i dont get the feeling that its been abused and hammered, there are really no dents on the truck that i could see either. if i had the money id of bought the truck too...

anyhow back to my build, im gonna try and install this thing tomorrow and get some pics of it for you guys, cause i know we all love pictures!

Nice! Congrats on the score. The 4Runner it came from sounds pretty awesome too. I wish the guy was local to me, I'd have offered to buy the F/R diffs off him for mine + cash.

PS.. RE the '85, that thing has got some work in it! Sounds bad ass!

That Runner sounds like a beast! Make sure she posts some pics of it (or take some yourself) if she gets it!

^^ oh i will dont you worry. and she wont be afraid to wheel it either, she would take her defender 90 out wheeling with us when she had time. so with a rig that is more capable(lockers) she will be going out more i think.

so i got my snorkel done today...

Looks good man! Have you thought about some LC 7 or 8 wraps?? I think that would really set you up for a kicka$$ stance...IMO.... BTW, I love the color of your rig.......oh...and those Tundra Wheels! :)

i have a set of LC 8wraps and 9wraps in my garage, im just waiting on the front 5100s and then ill have my lift. i know the 9 wraps will be way too tall, but when i do a rear bumper and rear winch setup, i think that will be enough weight to squat the 9wraps to a level stance. i think im gonna be runnig around with enough weight from my armor, tools and recovery gear that i carry daily to have the 8wraps sit level with the brand new trundra front coils. at least thats my hope.

That looks awesome buddy! I love the way it sounds too! Sounds mean! You got my favorite color too!

so a little update, this last weekend i went up to my father inlaws shop to pull my rear end appart to see what all the fuss was about... then he hits me with the new that he didnt know where he put my old stock open diff... fml. well i went out to his parts shed with him and i found it sitting on a shelf(he simply over-looked it...), so now i had options. anyhow we pulled things apart and this is what we found...

IMAG1820.jpg~original

yeah thats a bolt head MIA...
IMAG1819.jpg~original

oh there it is...
IMAG1822.jpg~original

IMAG1829.jpg~original

and uh yeah there is not supposed to be that much of a gap their, all of the bolts that hold the housing came lose and pulled out...
IMAG1827.jpg~original

back to this guy for a couple of months till i can get the new one and time to go back and put it in.

so apparently the bolts either pulled out the threads in the housing or just somehow backed out with the keeps still attached(highly unlikely)
anyhow yeah got my original open 3rd back in and everything ok(just lacking on traction, but its sure nice not to have my new tires being eatin up in parking lots...

got rid of my dual exhaust hack job from the previous owner... flipped the muffler around and built a Y pipe and then went with 2.5" all the way to just past the rear axle, then went to 3" for the outlet/dump. i like the way it turned out, its all nice and tucked up tight to the bumper so when i put on a replacement bumper i dont think my exhaust will hang down too low. its a little louder now, not sure if thats from flipping the muffler(not sure if your supposed to do that or not -i called a few exhaust shops and they said it souldnt matter as long as their is no flow indication arrow on the muffler itself). anyhow the sound is nice, a little more sound inside, but i liked the quieter sound before, but i can already feel an increase in freeway pickup/acceleration... also my mileage really picked up too. i am now at just past 1/4 tank used, not quite to 1/3, and ive gone over 107 miles... usually i will see about 120-130 at half a tank, so im hoping ill be getting right around 300 to a tank now(finger crossed). like i said its a little louder than it was before and a little louder than i would like(i really liked the sound before) but i will gladly take the louder sound for the increased performance in both power and mileage.

I knew it was one of you other members....I copied and got the autometer 'A' pillar gauge pod and trans. temp gauge (in black). Bought some hardware for the install too. Maybe this weekend I'll have it done.
