Hi All,

Well I'm convinced the 4x4 for my price range will be a 4Runner. I don't need all the bells and whistles but here in EL Paso 4x4 Tacomas start at $9k with 175K miles.

I checked out a 2001 today researched and it seemed the locking rear diff no longer an option with some strange TSD stability package in stead.... I then found a 2000 with rear locker for $7500 with only 155K miles on it.

What do you think? High KBB is ~$7100 and this has only very minor issues, paint fade etc... The KBB for this which only comes in at good is $6600. Has new timing belt and up-to-date maintenance records.

Aside from the quality of the vehicle that I can't convey what is a good offer. I'm thinking spending more than $7000 not a good idea...but I have had trouble the past few weeks finding better at any price!

Opinions greatly appreciated.

doesnt seem to bad in my opinion, not a steal but your definatly not getting ripped off. Even thought you dont want all the bells and whistles having a limited is awesome. I have one and love the extra like leather and power everything. The automatic climate control is super nice for the heat and that says it has a remote starter which means you cans set it for like 70, start the car remotely and let it cool down to that temp ( I do that all the time cuz i added remote start to my 99 limited 4X4 living in Tucson its so helpful!) I say go for it!

One thing holding me back is all that bulbous plastic trim. I'm really considering starting to look back a gen or so and get a more metal, more mechanical Toyota Taco or 4R.

At what point did the 4x4's peak and the subsequent models just start getting heated leather seats? I know the rear lockers disappeared after 2000 and other technology ensued.

Not sure if I explained but I need a 4x4 for projects. I'm a geology student and will have a project in the Mojave region, possibly east Texas. I'll be putting hwy miles and serious dirt road. Not really rock crawling, more sandy muddy rocky desert conditions. Does any one model year scream as the best for this?

Being an owner of a 99 Limited I think this is very fair. You will like this truck allot! I know I LOVE mine. As said above the Limited package is nice and with the locker. The best thing about them is the multi mode 4x4 system. It is great and the options are almost endless with Mods also, or you can leave it stock and have a very good truck also. Just my .02 on the matter. the 99/00 are the ones people want and for good reason just remember that also.

BTW The owner accepted an offer and will deliver (with no obligation) This tells me he is confident in the condition. I drilled him about pretty much every detail and he's still gonna drive 40 miles...

As long as that engine has been maintained (plus fluids)... you should be cool with 155k miles... Some of them run to 300, 400, and 500k miles when taken care of.

On a side note, it is INSANE to me that you have to pay $9k for a Tacoma with 175k miles in El Paso... WOW.

Wow! You found one for less than $10K! In all honesty I have not seen any for less than $10.5K but these were well maintained TRD...but still....

So in a nut shell you get AWD also in that model. The multi mode transfer case has that button you push and it is more of a AWD than 4x4. If you push the stick over then it is full time 4x4 on the fly pretty much. It has a 4wdh,4wd high low, and low. See the difference.
