The T4R wave - I'm giving you the fingers - 4 of them - whether you like it or not :)

It was not a snob thing, but I figured it a surefire way for me to know (or at least hope) the person at least knew why they were being waved at, and it wasn't just some grandma who happened into a 4runner (though grandma's can love a 4runner too I do suppose) and thought the wave meant 'no, YOU go, I insist.'

That reminds me - I was pumping gas this past weekend and a very nice 5th gen SR5 in white pulled up at another pump beside and to the rear of me - I got all excited cuz they had a Gator hitch cover - and then a Grandma got out to pump gas I admit I chickened out - I was afraid she'd give me a dirty look if I gave her the 4 finger wave

I have started waving at other Runners, whether modded or not. I love the idea of hiding the thumb to expose 4 fingers. Maybe others will catch on. I'll post this to the 3rd Gen 4Runner group on Facebook, just in case I'm not the only one who didn't know this.

I've wanted a 4R for YEARS, but didn't own one until December of last year.
So now that I have one, I tend to notice ALL the other 4Runners that pass me by.
I make eye contact with every driver, but none of seem to notice (or care) that we both have great taste in vehicles.
Then again, my 2004 SR5 is stock, just like most of the ones I see...
so I'm guessing they are simply not as delighted to be driving a 4R as much as I am.
But I will start the trend here in Eastern PA...and hope it catches on.
Maybe we should design a new sticker.
A hand with four fingers extended, with the word "RUNNER" next to it

My daughter had a heep and she told me all about that wave and practiced it daily. Every time I rode with her somewhere, she would wave and they would wave back. I could see a big grin on her face every time that happened. I just shook my head and giggled. :wave:

I see 4Runners everywhere. Mine is bone stock but I have a few people acknowledge my existence. Especially the guy who is always going south on the freeway as I'm going north for work. He also has a Salsa Red 4th gen but his just a stock 2WD model. But it's funny to see identical rigs on the road.

Just kidding, but the times i do wave i can instantly feel my wife' eyes roll and the sarcasm rise in her voice! Funny thing is, she's a closet spotter and will let me know when she's found another 4Runner that's moded or something...
