Things to do to my '07

Hey everyone.
I'm new here and wanted to get peoples opinions on what modifications I should make to my 4Runner.

A few months ago I purchased a 2007 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD V6. Leather seats with seat warmers, aftermarket (I believe) nav/stereo system.

I know for sure that I'm wanting to put some sort of brush guard on the front, lift it a bit and add a back up camera. It would be nice to improve the performance of it a little.

Any tips or suggestions on what I should get or what I should do? I'll post more pictures of it soon.

I would suggest not going with a brush guard, because they cause more damage than they prevent in a crash. For a lift, what are you looking for, just ground clearence? Or ground clearance and suspension travel? Performance-wise, you could get a muffler welded in, some headers, Air intake, a drop in air filter, a supercharger, or really anything else. What are you looking for? Low end torque, High end torque, Power, better Fuel economy, etc?

Sounds like you plan on taking it off road? If so, for $0 you can ditch the running boards which will also make your vehicle look like it sits a bit higher.

As for a brush guard, what do you want it for? If just for looks, then go for it, but if you actually intend to go off road, it might not be that great an idea. For one thing, anything that bolts on to your front end is going to cut into your approach angle which makes it more likely that you'll get hung up on something if you're off road.

BTW just noticed: You have an SR5 but it appears to have the Sport Edition roof rack (tubular bars?) Never seen that before, wonder if somebody swapped out a SE roof rack onto the SR5?

The brush guard is more cosmetic than anything. Not entirely worried about if I wreck it. The lift is kind of the same thing, more cosmetic than anything. If I take this off road it would never be anything major.

More power would be nice and probably some low end torque. I know a few differences in high/low end torque but not enough to make a complete decision.

I think it honestly does. There's a fair amount of lean from front to back on it and I never knew why.

I'm not THAT mechanical.. Is it easy to check and see if there's a spacer?

Yes and no to taking it off road. If I do it would be very minor. No serious mud holes or climbing over massive logs.

Yes to your last statement about the roof rack. Don't know 100% but I remember something about it when I bought it.

Yep...my wife can confirm that it is a big expense.

Minus the rear bumper with all that stuff on it & the under body armour. Hence why I said "more or less" in my post . But yeah, it did change. I just want mine to be sexy like his .

First thi g you want to do is NOT break your rear wiler arm. Common thing on that vehicle. I wish someone would have warned me. Comes from pulling it out whe you are washing the truck. Them it gets stuck, you panic and force it back in and break the dam. Thing.

I would check out the shocks amd struts. If they need replaced get some bilstein 5100s and a 1/2 top spacer for the rear.

If you want that look. First order the bumper. A shrockworks can take 6 months to get in. While you're waiting get a coil over suspension installed. The ride and handling improvement will be awesome and worth the money. You don't need skids or sliders if you're not going hard core. Get some nice tires- you can run 285's with lots of trimming, or just go with 265's and have clearance. Weathertech floor mats. Put HID bulbs in your projector headlights. That's a good start and about $4k worth of mods.

As for more power... not much you can really do. Just make it louder with an intake and exhaust- but you won't feel the difference. Shoulda got a V8 if you want more torque....

Sweet! I'm not afraid to put money into my vehicle . I'd gladly put $4k+ into it.
