Even more interesting (at least for the 2014) is that doing this same thing when in radio mode actually pauses it and lets you rewind on-screen. I have radio DVR???

:: Grabbed keys....Ran to warehouse.....tried once....then twice....once more...then one last time...... WALKED back to office angry at the world....
Does anyone else have this remote start option already installed?

Smart Key programming
If you have the smart key, you can simply grab the driver's side door handle to unlock just that door. If you want to unlock all the doors, simply:
1. Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch OFF.
2. When the indicator on the key surface is turned off, press and hold the unlock button and then hold the lock button on the "key" for approximately 5 seconds.
You'll hear the exterior beep twice and the interior ping once. Go outside, lock your door and then test it out. WALA! All doors will unlock. Not that it isn't already but it's so much more convenient.

I didn't know about pressing and holding the lock or unlock button to control the tailgate window. Press and hold the lock button for about 1 second to raise the window. Press and hold the unlock button for about 1 second to lower the window.
I'll have to try that out.

We have the LE with the Smartkey and the other day it started going crazy after accelerating from a stop sign or red light. The dash caution light would flash and beep and the control panel would say that the key is detected in the vehicle. After doing this several times after accelerating from a stop, then the doors would unlock and it would show that doors were open.
I pulled over and did a search in this forum and couldn't find anything on here or on a quick google search. Wasn't really sure of what I was looking for anyway. Since I was passing by a Toyota dealership, I pulled in to the service bay and they didn't know but said I could take a number and wait. Decided to leave but wanted to check the trunk first. Apparently my kid didn't shut it all the way and every time I would accelerate, it would open it enough to alert the doors. Previous vehicles would just show an alert for door open.
Now I know.

Yes. I have the remote start on my SR5, and (IMO) it is the most useless function on the 5th gen. Your description in it's functioning matches my experience to a "T". I have gotten it to work, but my greatest success has been when I've been standing right next to it. Even assuring that the stars were aligned before commencing with a kabuki dance did not help. I believe that Toyota created a remote aggravation start - not an engine start. :mmph: I don't use it.

Other than the engine kill when a door is opened and the de-icer cant be activated, I am happy with mine. The range works well for me and I use it 2-3 months out of the year. I can be at the back of my 2 story house and have it start without a problem when I hold it to my chin (old car alarm trick using your body as an antenna).

LOL line of sight I get about 200 feet...I like the fact that it even shuts off after a few minutes in case you diverted from the task of leaving ones current location.
I would rather have it than not have it, better knowing someone hasn't trashed my OE harness's and trim installing it too.
Thanks for the tip, poolzer. I had to go back and read the instructions (timing between button pushes is everything) on how to use the remote start, but it worked like a charm when I did not wait between button pushes. The battery in my key may be getting weak, as activating the button from inside the house did not produce a beep from the garage, until I held the key up to my chin. BTW, the remote start functions with three rapid successive pushes on the button; continuing to hold the button down on the third push for 3-4 seconds before the lights flash several times (indicating the remote start is activated).

Holy crap, I just found out I have remote start too. Dealer never told me either. I even asked specifically about it. Man that's sweet.

Doesnt' work the way on either my SR5 or Le. Holding the unlock buttion lowers the 4 windows, not tailgate, holding lock button does not put them back up.
I would also like to know. By my count there are 7 people on here that just happened to find out they had it.
So how to I check, do I have to leave a key in the ignition?

Usually there is a sticker on the window for it. Hit the lock key 3 times and hold down on the 3rd push for a second or two...
Just hit unlock to kill it...:frusty:
My 13 SR5 don't have it and my 10 TE Prem don't have it. I was so hoping I had it and did not know how to use it.
