5 months ago I traded my beloved lifted 13TE for a Chevy pickup crew cab Silverado.16 Z71.

I saw another 4R but it was a TRD pro in Mag. gray that was just sweet , no I got the bug to switch back to a 4R . My dealer has a white TRD pro coming in in a week thats not spoken for BUT I DONT want white. Just not for me so I'm thinking of trading my Chevy for a Magnetic gray 16 4R TE with KDSS.

Do you think the KDSS is worth the $1750.00 ??? My 2010 TE had it as well as my lifted 13TE so I don't know what to expect if I don't get it. The inly lift I will do from now on is a spacer lift. Im done doing the suspension lift thing .

Give me your opinions please
Thank you
Mike

Stick with your new pickup. Use funds from your constant car switching to buy other neat toys. Buy an ATV (if you don't have one), put some racks on it, and explore around. Load it up in back of your pickup.

That would be my move.

Love my 4R w/ KDSS, but don't understand habitual car switchers.

Y'all ever notice that in the posts announcing the sale/trade of a 4R, that they are always "beloved"?

You know, "I beloved that 4R soo much I ditched it". Just sayin'

If you go back to a 4R stick with KDSS
You will know the difference if you go with a non KDSS

I like my KDSS. it's been my only 4Runner, and it feels like it rides on rails. Great road manners, and it doesn't limit the type of off-roading that I do.... And I do go offroad often.

I'm not sure I'd want to rejoin this peanut gallery though. :D

Yes the money is worth it for KDSS. Especially if you've already had it. You can turn any trail in to a TurdPro, but you can't get KDSS on a TRDPro.

No, not really accurate. There are MANY examples on these boards of KDSS vehicles with up to 3" of lift while still retaining on-road manners. Sure, if you are wanting some 6" extreme setup then sure don't choose KDSS but that's not the average setup for those who are looking to lift.

If it's your daily yes. Plan to upgrade suspension no.

I have a 16 TEP w/KDSS. I can get the stock tires squealing around a corner with very little body roll. Articulation is great off-road.

So just to clarify...you've previously owned 2 4runners, both Trail Editions (one of which had KDSS), and now you're asking us for advice on buying a 3rd Trail Edition?

I don't really understand why you need advice from an internet forum on a car you've already owned twice.

And I don't get why you're switching cars yet again to get another 4runner.

In all seriousness, stop buying/trading, whatever it is you're doing and stick with a solid car for a few years so you can stop wasting money....you're Chevy pickup is more than capable for handling most driving conditions.

I would say not at this time. Pointless to own a 3rd 5th gen 4R when a 6th gen is around the corner. Once the 6th gen comes out I'm willing to bet you are going to trade into that one even if you bought another 5th gen. Sounds like you have an upgrade itch and get bored easily, maybe buy a lift or some wheels for your Z71? I say this as someone who just traded in their 13 LE for a new base Trail. I can say it wasn't the smart financial decision and there is some regret in that but there were also some issues with my LE which it was out of warranty to fix. I am hoping the same issues don't pop up in my new one.

Well I average 30k miles per year . I own my own business and vehicles are a write off / business expense for me . My business can easily afford to do what I want to do and don't have money worries. As the above mentioned about trading is usually done at 100k miles with me or just under 100k. yes I have run 2 5th gens up over 100k already….. whats the big deal ?? So please don't be an ass Im not bragging its all just business and I'm getting flamed for asking about KDSS. And yes once this 16 hits 100k Ill buy another vehicle and trade the 16 off for a 19. Thats the way it works in my business.

The reason I bought the chevy was to give GM another try , after to many trips already for service I'm sick of dealing with it. I have a laundry list of issues with it that they can't seem to fix correctly or I get the "thats normal" speech. Time is money and I can have my vehicles down this often.
I feel buying the Chevy was a mistake/poor judgement maybe on my part , hell one of the issues is it not starting …… it's a F'n 6mo old truck !!!! Its left one of my drivers stranded on more than 1 occasion. Thank God for road side assistance/towing into the shop.

ok my rant is over >>>>>

I drove A KDSS and a non KDSS tonight and prefer the KDSS .

Thank you much to anyone who gave valuable input.

I'm not a habitual car buyer , I switch when I feel I need to due to business reasons , tax and write off reasons. If I didn't have the business I would not have switched . Id prob still have my 10TE. I only switch when I get to 100k miles or so.

Who's being an ass? I thought all the comments on here have been fair. No one knows prior to you mentioning it what your financial situation is/was. If you're going to ask a question and ask for advice try not to call those who give their opinion an ass.

Sounds like you had 2 with KDSS already with no plans of doing long travel or other involved modifications to negate the swaybars, so I would recommend you stick with KDSS.

I'll probably tear out my KDSS in the near future, but consider the 150K+ miles I have used it a bargain for the entry price.

Hey OP, I bought my '15 TE with KDSS in the Milwaukee area after test driving two Trails, one with KDSS and one without. I love KDSS and how it drives on and off road. I put a 2" lift in mine and have used it extensively off road. I did the research and am very pleased with KDSS. As almost everyone here drives mostly on road, KDSS gives you a great level ride there without losing anything off road. And it handles mild lifts just fine. Given your experience, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Happy trails!

OP, Based on what you're saying, it sounds to me like you belong in the 4runner. I, too, traded for a Chevy truck once a few years back and had similar experience to you, it just didn't have the reliability I was accustomed to.

I've driven both KDSS and non KDSS 4runners, and it's way cool. All things being equal, I'd take one with it, opposed to be without unless you plan on suspension mods. I usually don't, so I like having it.

Best of luck with your choice!
