Thinking about trading

I am thinking about trading my 2011 4Runner SR with 3200 miles for a new 2011 FJ. The only thing keeping me from going to the dealer is the fear of how much a beating I will take on the trade. I was going to buy the FJ when we bought the 4 Runner but the wife liked the 4 Runner better. How bad do you guy think they will take me for the trade? I should have bought the FJ in the first place.

You only live once. You know you are going to take a bath anyway so once you go, if you can afford it, go for it and get what you and the wife want together.

Go to Carmax and get an appraissal first for your T4R. It's good for 7 days and there's no obligation. So far for me, no dealership was able to match or beat Carmax's offer. Just my .02.

You may be very pleasantly surprised. A big factor will be how your state deals with sales tax as discussed in other threads recently. If you get a tax break on the trade value, that's a very good start. Jump in an negotiate. I did a similar move from an 2010 SR5 and 2011 LTD and couldn't be happier with the upgrade and in the end the deal they offered made it a no brainer.

Sounds like a cry for help.

I traded in my 6 month old 2011 Sienna LE for a 2011 SR5. I was getting terrible trade-in quotes from Honda (considered a Pilot briefly). I went back to the dealership I bought the Sienna from, and they actually gave me a great trade-in and I paid below invoice for the 4runner. So, I felt like I got pretty lucky. Good luck with your trade (if you end up doing it).

Like above, go to the dealer that sold you the t4r. Repeat business generally nets better results. IMO though t4r > fj in the long run.

Do you plan on having kids in the next couple years? Try getting in the back seat with a car seat or anything else and you'll soon be cursing the FJ. IMHO, the 4runner is so much better and I couldn't see myself downgrading to an FJ. however, to each his own. Good luck

i agree with kmiller8821, if you are going to have a family, keep the 4runner. and also, most toyota dealer probably short on vehicles. most toyota dealer i passed by have almost vacant lot. mostly are used vehicles on the lot too. so, if you trade your 4runner, the dealer will grab it rightaway, and give you reason that you are going to wait for the shipment of FJ. and they might give you high APR. overall, you will be the loser for trading your 4runner.

I agree ^^^^. The FJ rear seat almost to the useless with the baby carseat. Don't forget the small suicidal door too.

well talked to wife, looks like 4 Runner will stay in the garage! Also being 62 I don't have any plans on more kids:biggrin2: Well it was just a thought but as everyone says "Happy wife, Happy life!

Keep the 4Runner

I just traded my 2009 FJ for a 4Runner three weeks ago. Having owned both, I would tell you to keep th Runner. They are night and day in terms of comfort, and more importantly, gas mileage. I never got better than 16mpg in the FJ.

I can't think of anything the FJ could do that the Runner won't handle just as well.
