IIRC, there is also a pin on the OBDII connector that you can ground at or after startup, which will turn stability and traction control off until you restart. The process is meant as a service procedure to use when you're going to put the 4Runner on a dyno for an engine or brake check. It's discussed in the service manual.

You could buy an OBDII connector plug and rig up a switch, I guess. It would be easier than running something through the firewall.

Pin #14 will erase the ZPD and turn off VSC/TRAC but leave ABS working completely. I've tested this in my v8 4th gen, I will also add that I can go more places off road without having the lock the center diff.

The Torsen AWD is so good that I feel my truck is almost more capable in most situation without the VSC nannies bugging me. I am able to drive up hills and through sand/mud pits in regular 4HI on my AWD v8 without any chatter or slowing down. Whereas with the VSC/TRAC enabled I would bog down in 4HI and sometimes come to a complete stop and have to shift into 4LO or lock the center diff or even both.

IMO it is much more capable without the nannies on if I choose.

I did it by accident actually, it was when I was setting up my Ultragauge. I found out through the Ultragauge support forums that Pre 2005 use an ISO protocol for ODB2 communications and the latter use 11 bit CANbus. The #14 pin is the CANbus communication pin apparently but my 4Runner doesn't use this. When I plugged in my Ultragauge it attempted to ping that pin and for whatever reason when sending power to or grounding that pin (not sure which) it temporarily erases the ZPD value so the 4Runner doesn't know when the vehicle is moving or sitting still so therefore it turns off the VSC/TRAC but retains ABS.

When I unplug the Ultragauge the VSC/TRAC turns back on, but I plug it back in and it turns off again because of this error. I always have my gauge plugged in so I never have VSC/TRAC, if it's as simple as grounding the pin you could insert a paper clip to the connector on start up and it should have the same effect.
