Has anyone else mentioned that the "Official changes" document attached at the start of this thread looks like a 5th grader typed it up on his Tandy computer?

There are no Toyota symbols, trademarks, anything that signifies that this is an official Toyota document/change sheet. How do we know this is any more or less true than the rest of the speculation on this and every other 'Yota website in anticipation of our coveted 5th gen????

Always a possibility but most that have talked to someone in the know reinforce many of the points on that pdf.

You make some valid points, and I do take everything I read (especially on the internet) with a grain of salt, but it does look credible to my eyes. Can't wait to see the new Army Green FJ

I noticed it does not have any Toyota symbols. It looks to me like something for salesmen. Some basic info on all the models. If it is a fake, it is a really good one, talking about all the models. To me, I think it is real.

To me I would of been more impressed if they made the controls harder to use. On the 4th gen. it is the worst HVAC control I have ever used and sometimes it has a mind of it's own. It always seems to go to re-cirulate air and if you put it on "auto" good luck in figuring out how to turn it off.

The 3rd gen. is one of the easiest ones I have used.

You're actually completely wrong. Plenty of people, including myself, do plenty of offroading, and don't like/will not buy a vehicle with unpainted flares, bumpers etc.

I am always amused when someone barely out of his teens chooses to express his opinion as fact.

I could care less what the hood level height is. Ground clearance is the ablility to clear S H I T without banging something.

Whatever happened to the 3rd gen clearance of 11"? It is a shame.

IMHO......those black fenders are nails (beyond ugly). I cant fathom why people would choose that model....if they had sucha an option.

That would be so cool. I hate how all the new SUVs all have this stupid button to change to 4WD. I love the old 3rd gens with the lever and a manual tranny.

Yeah, and there's the small percentage that might have done what I did back in 2002. I walked in not knowing that the 4Runner was available in auto only. Talked to the salesperson looked at it and asked, do you have any manual transmission ones and when he told me the news, I literally just walked out. I wish I went looking for a used '99 or 2000 back then, but I don't think I could have afforded it cause the used car financing rate was a lot higher than the new car rates.

I like the manual shift idea.

I kind of like the shift on the fly push button system.

I like that you can switch into 4x4 while your driving and not have to get out and lock anything or stop and then shift....

Just my thoughts!!

Actually, you can have a mechanical leaver and still have shift on the fly...jeeps had them...my '00 cherokee has it...

push button usually requires at least a solenoid which is just something else that can go wrong.

Agreed! My wife hates the HVAC system on her 4Runner. She likes to have the air blowing on her and there doesn't seem to be any way to set the temperature of that air. The system just blows hot or cold until it reaches the set temperature. Her old '99 Expedition EB with auto climate was able to do this. I like the manual system on my Tundra much better.

Sometimes in the morning when it is semi-cold, maybe around 40 or so, I want a little heat. So, I trun up the heat, it goes from LO to 65 and it brings out all this massive heat from the vents. I guess it is trying to get the whole car up to 65 right away. Well. the heat is more like 85 and it is just too hot, so I go back to low and of course it is too cold. Call me crazy, but there has to be a better way.

The lack of a V8 in the upcoming 4Runner just makes my decision to go with the upcoming Jeep Grand Cherokee all the easier.

I love the smooth power of my current V8 and will NOT be forced to choose a less powerful engine by the Obama administration or anyone else!

I have a 99 SR5 with the 5sp manual, 105K miles and plan to keep it. It seems Toyota could put the manual back in the 4Runner since it is offered on the Tacoma. I know a number of people who want the manual just for better control in the snow plus it makes driving more fun I think. I look at the new 4Runners each year and would buy one if a manual transmission was offered. Fortunately my 99 has proven to be bullet proof and does not need to be replace.

Yeah, it is a shock that they drop the V8 and then go with a 4cyl. I noticed that the 4Runner comes standard with a tow hitch. I wonder what the rating will be for the 4 cyl?

Going with the Gand Cherokee may be a good choice, but I would be tempted to keep the 05 4Runner for another 10 years....:driving:
