This will answer most questions on the new TR5

I just noticed that we can attach pdf files with this new software, so I thought I would try and attach the Toyota 10 line up. If it works we don't have to go to another web site to read it.

Anyway, I am giving it a try.....

This is pretty interesting to me as I owned an 00 with the 2.7 5 speed and really enjoyed it, although I would almost gurantee the new 2.7 will be the
2tr from the Tacoma, which of course is not nearly the same as the old 3rz. The 4Runner being a RWD platform I would think the Highlander motor would be out as they are a FWD configuration. From my reading it does not say the 2wd has more clearance, it simply states it gains more clearnace, so if it used to have 8" it now has 9" while the 4wd goes from 9" to 9.6", as examples only. Also seems to suggest it will have KDSS, hasn't that come up here on other posts as being a nice off road feature previously only on the GX? I would imagine the 2.7 might be offered in a manual, we will see but it is standard practice for Toyota to offer 4 cylinder SUV's w/ a manual, agreed it has become less popular, but I'll still keep my fingers crossed. And for tow rating I'd assume 3500, same as the Tacoma. The 3rd gen 2.7 was always rated the same as the Tacoma even though they weighed more.

It would be nice to see a manual transmission, but I doubt we will see it. It was not mentioned in the write up, something you think they would do, if they are offering it. Yeah, I know a larger 4Runner with a 4 cyl. automatic combo would be REALLY slow. Which kind of makes this somewhat interesting to see how they pull this off.

I currently have a large 4 cyl. rear wheel drive car. It is known as the Toyota Previa. It revs high and is SLOW. I would say, the overall driving experience is not a good one. Maybe they have done some magic to this new rig, but I don't see how.

Looks like those of us with the V8 are about to see an increase in the value of our 4runners! If someone wants a V8 and a 4runner, then we're basically all you've got to choose from, especially if oil does indeed drop to $20 a barrell, as more and more analysts are begining to think might happen, thanks to the 100's of millions of gallons of oil that is already sitting in super tankers as storage because of an oversupply reaction to last year's run-up on prices.

Forgetabout twenty buck oil, there are halucinations going on here. And I've got a 2007 V8 and I invest heavily in the oil markets.

You'll see seventy five buck oil much sooner than you'll see forty buck oil... let alone twenty.

And I like the V8 a lot and cannot believe Toyota factory is going to a 4cyl in addition to the V6 if I'm hearing correctly.

Just like this government is becoming mired in deeper deficits and debt, people are becoming cheaper in their driving and life itself.

Long live the V8!

We'll see if your right, come October as the rest of the forward delivery contracts of $150+ purchased last year during the speculator-induced panic in the oil markets finally expire in September, and the small guys get eaten alive by the big boys, who've got to unload the massive surplus sitting in countless tankers in the ocean, just waiting for docking orders to off-load.

A conservative and contracting economic playing field, matched with an over-supplied inventory eventually will result in one thing....a sell-off!

But, eitherway, I agree with you amigo, long live the V8!!! I don't see the day in my future where I won't have one, as both of my cars are Toyota V8's - the best damn engines ever made, if you ask me!

...as both of my cars are Toyota V8's - the best damn engines ever made, if you ask me!

But how durable are they? I've had five 4 cyl. engine vehicles and I've driven all of them way over 200,000 miles prior to selling them. I've only had one 8 cyl. engine car and that thing didn't even last 100,000 miles.

I'm not saying that I think the 4 cyl is best for the new 4Runner. I think it needs to have a little more power and torque (it's only on par with my wifes new RAV4). But Toyota could come up with a 4 cyl with more power.

A 4Runner only needs to go so fast. If you want speed, then you're driving the wrong vehicle. It cracks me up to read posts about how fast someone's 4Runner is. :lmao: What it really requires is torque (read "diesel").

If you take care of it and keep everything OEM, it will last virtually forever. If yo go onto autotrader.com you will see many Land Cruiser's between 1998+ with over 200k.

I currently have 157k on my Lincoln LS V8 and it looks brand new. Everything that has ever needed replaced, has been with OEM parts. The car drives like a dream.

A no V8 option is a deal breaker for me, I love my V8 and I will never go back to a 6 again.

And 20's on the limited? Oh that is just stupid, they are losing focus on what made the 4Runner so popular. It wasn't the gimmick bling factor that's for sure.

If this is all true, looks like my 04 V8 will be the last 4Runner I buy. :(

Maybe Toyota is thinking, you can have the 4Runner in a 4 or 6 cyl. If you want the V8, then you will have to step up to the Lexus, maybe???

Oh I'm sure that's what they are thinking :(

but it still seems Toyota is not understanding the 4Runner customer.
The Lexus and the 4Runner are 2 different animals. I wouldn't dare take a Lexus off any type of road.

I'm really hoping that Toyota finally will realize that dropping the V8 was a dumb move and bring it back. but I have a feeling they won't.

I agree with you they really aren't the same, but I was thinking if you had to get a V8 you could squint you eyes a little and they mgiht look the same.

I also think it is possible for Toyota to change their mind and get back the V8. Just think back to 2003 when they came out with the grey plastic sides, in mid-year they changed it. Well???

im sure the lexus is a great vec., but with the "eye squint" i bet you ll also get the bend over price. what is the $ for a 2010 lexus ?

At this point, all of the discussions around the 2010 4Runner are conjecture and speculation. Even the title of this thread is misleading because it creates more questions than it answers. There are some camo spy shots of (what we think) is a 2010 4Runner and a dealer option list of what some are saying now is for the Canadian market. The dealer I take my 4R to knows nothing about the new redesigned 4R and it hasn't made an auto show debut yet.

It's fun to speculate what the 2010 4Runner will look like and what options it will have, but the proof is in the pudding and no one outside of Toyota seems to know jack (including Car & Driver). Guess we'll just have to wait and see.....

The "Toyota Model Lineup - What's New '10 MY" pdf posted at the start of this thread and elsewhere on this forum is authentic. This pdf, posted many weeks ago, included specs for both the 2010 4Runner and 2010 FJ Cruiser. Last Friday, Toyota officially announced that the changes for the 2010 FJ Cruiser were as follows:

"The 2010 FJ Cruiser, the most capable off-road SUV in the Toyota line-up, will feature several upgrades, including dual VVT-i and roller rocker arms on the 4.0-liter V6, which add 19 horsepower and a one mpg increase. Minor suspension changes reduce the turning radius by more than a foot, and a new Army Green exterior color is offered."

The pdf correctly listed ALL of theses changes for the 2010 FJ Cruiser. Only the horsepower increase was off by one HP. That seems like pretty accurate information to me. Do you still think the discussion about the 2010 4Runner is "conjecture and speculation?"

Here is a link to the Toyota press release regarding the 2010 FJ Cruiser:

Umm, yeah, I do. There were "reliable" sources stating that the 4.6L V8 was going to make it's way to the 5th gen 4R, now this PDF says it isn't. Others have confirmed that this document is for the Canadian market which historically has had different options than U.S. versions. I believe that the document is legit, but it doesn't tell me a whole lot either. "Enhanced rugged sporty exterior styling - returns to it's roots". That doesn't tell me squat. And with it getting about an inch bigger in every direction according to this document, rather than getting smaller, doesn't imply to me that the 4R is "returning to it's roots".

So if a dozen or so bullet points with such pearls of wisdom like "improved interior comfort" and "easier to use HVAC controls" clears up all of your questions regarding the 5th gen 4R, awesome. But it doesn't for me and a lot of others, and that's all I was trying to say.

Gentleman's bet that they offer an optional V8 in the States????

Sorry G.I.G., but you're a little confused. There are two pdf's floatings around: an American "2010 Toyota Model Lineup" pdf, and a Canadian "Vehicle Ordering Guide" pdf. The one posted at the start of this thread is the American pdf. The Canadian pdf, which has much more detail, is posted in the thread named "2010 4Runner" at post #36:
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showpost.php?p=427487&postcount=36

The American pdf was originally posted in a TundraSolutions.com forum by a member who claims to work at the HandyToyota dealership in Pennsylvania. That pdf was removed from the TundraSolutions forum "at the request of Toyota," but is still posted here on T4R.org. You can find the TundraSolutions thread here (post #19):
http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/4runner/160791-10-4runner-2/

Some American dealers have already started updating their websites to include the 2010 4Runner with specs and trim levels. Try looking up the 2010 4Runner on 1800autoland.com (under new vehicle - vehicle research), and you will find the same specs, options, and trim levels as listed in the Canadian "Vehicle Ordering Guide" pdf:

That does shed some additional light on the subject, sven. I guess the biggest question mark I still have is what the darn thing is going to look like. I'm afraid "rugged and sporty" to Toyota means "let's make the new 4R look like every other SUV we offer". The more I hear about the 5th gen, the less excited I get. Which is a good thing because I want to get another 200k miles out of my '07 4R and jones'n for a new 4R won't help my cause.

But seriously, a 161 hp 4-banger in an almost 5k pound SUV??? :wtf: The 4R isn't getting smaller and lighter.

I still don't see how Toyota doesn't offer the new 4.6L V8 in the new 4R. With more power and better mpg's you would think it would be a no brainer to offer it in the new 4R, but what do I know. Guess I'll just have to see and drive one for myself.....

I'm glad you posted the link to the Toyota dealer's personal website. There is a lot more info. on their page in regards to standard features than we have seen anywhere else. Now I am just hoping that I don't have to get 20" wheels on a 4WD Limited!

On a side note, its nice to see that all models have the window grid antenna instead of the fender mounted mast seen in spy photos.
