Those with S/C & URD 7th

Howsit going everyone,
I was wondering for those who are running superchargers and the URD 7th injector kit, how many of you actually took the time and/or had the resources/funds to tune BEYOND the base map that the kit comes with?

I'm simply asking here because T4R was seriously the best forum I've been associated with. Everyone seemed very knowledgeable, and helpful (compared to what yotatech and ttora turned out to become over time).

I never "pound" my truck (rarely see's 65mph...rarely even see's sunlight for that matter). Its currently using the IK22's (2 step colder plugs) and I have no intention for upgrading to a smaller pulley. I do plan on running the URD kit, but I just want to see how many people reallyyyy needed to tune beyond basemap settings.

And trust me when I say, I have no intention for upgrading the pulley and going fast, its a truck, I use it for what its meant for. A car is well more suited for spirited driving.

And for those who are wondering, no I'm not back in a 3rd gen...yet. And yes, my previous 3rd gen died from its new owner.

I appreciate all the feedback!

I've had the S/C and URD 7th on for about 1 1/2 years. I never messed with tuning. The truck runs spectacular. Never upgraded to the smaller pulley. Too lazy. No issues thus far.

I'm wondering the same thing, but I do want to go to a smaller pulley. I'm at higher elevation though and it's packed when I go camping. Would love the extra power. I'm curious if certain years play nicer than others with urd 7th.

I'm heading down this path now. Looking into the Supra MaF, 02-04 injectors, smaller pulley, porting SC. With the engine in building now, it's staying stock internals. Once I get up to speed on the electronics side I'm swapping in a forged internals block. Current build wraps up in month, next to engine is before July '17.

It seems that 97-00 plays the best, 96 the ECU can be picky and same goes with the newer ones. But they will all work, just some require a bit more tuning due to changes in the ECU and O2 sensors on some models.

I was told that 98's are the best with the superchargers, so I got a 98. So far that seems true.

Yeah I have a 97. I really don't want fine tune it if I don't have to. I want to squeeze a little more power out of it and keep it reliable. I'm at 4000 feet, do you think the base map would be fine with the 2.2 pulley?

The base map works for most applications, but like any situation a tuned vehicle will run better. I think the base tune is for the stock pulley though.

Really? I did not know that. So would it be wise then to invest into an afr gauge and plumb it into the exhaust? I guess I need to do a bit of research.

on my 2000 its kinda sucks. Ive had to add a bunch of fuel to my map. my timing map is pretty good.

im boosted pretty hard 2.2 and 7th, colder ik22 plugs and stant 170 tstat.

With the 2000 is really cracks down on removing any excess fuel thats added in closed loop. ive had to add a lot of fuel in closed loop to get my AFR meter into 11.5, im still not there, i need to do some more work to it.
i am currently tuned at 12.5 i was never seeing the AFR drop below the overage pressure boost enrichment of 13.8 but now after ive changed the values im seeing 12.5.

^^^ if you cant follow that im sorry, getting sleepy.

Thanks for responses everyone.
shootmymime, from the get go did your 2000 needed added fuel in the high rpm band? or that situation occurred after you upped the boost, and the demands weren't being met then?

I had a SR 240sx that I just sold last year so forced induction isnt new to me. I learned a lot from that car, blew a motor up as well cause I got boost happy lol.

I dont drive my truck fast at all, just trying to protect my investment.

i put the 7th and 2.2 on at the same time. At the time my 7th was not wired correctly and i was having problems.
A year and a half later i finally figured out my problems and corrected them. so not its wired correctly, i need to add more fuel. my bet would be that you will need to add some. getting an AFR gauge will be the best way to check.

Just ordered my 7th today from Gadget.
Talk about great customer service. I called yesterday and left a message due to online shipping quotes only being FedEx, and you can imagine they were quite pricey to Hawaii even for a 6.5 lb box.
Gadget called me this morning and was able to set me up with USPS priority. Super stoked!

Update. Been working on tightening up my supercharger belt. Maxed out the alternator tensioner and ordered the dynamic tensioner. No more slipping belt. I should gain a few more lbs of boost.

Update:

When I first charged the 3.4 my impression was - what a waste of money. this thing costs 3k for nothing, wasnt even impressed.

Added the 7th injector - just with the base map, the added fuel throughout the entire RPM range made such a HUGE difference! Night and effn day difference.

I'm very happy with the charger paired with the 7th injector.

However, for 4 grand? (charger new and URD 7th) I would recommend to others that they should just regear and spend the extra money elsewhere.

Unless you really have the money to do this, or get a deal on the charger itself, I'd then say do it.
