Thoughts on the 4.0l V6?

I obviously have the old 4.0 liter in my tacoma and I drive hofs05 4runner alot. Between the two vehicles there is a HUGE difference. Of course I 'm running 33's and she's still stock so that will account for some of it, but the engine is still a good upgrade from the previous one.

Honestly, I think they're pretty close. My 2005 Tacoma was a monster, I had a K&N cold air intake, and its acceleration was great. I've noticed my 2010 4Runner TE isn't as jumpy, but that may be different gearing and lack of the intake. I love my 4Runner

, but I really miss my Tacoma I agree and am finding the same thing with my new Limited. I'm still in the break in stage, so I've been easy on the gas. On Sunday I got impatient with a slow vehicle in front of me and got on the gas to pass the vehicle. I was pleasantly surprised at the exceleration I got out of the V6. Having owned trucks with V6 engines in the past, I was concerned the T4R would be a dog.....not the case. While I don't tend to be a heavy footed driver, it is nice to know the T4R has the capacity to get out and move when needed.

The thing that bothers me is that it is not connected to a manual tranny, or an automatic with manual gearing option that forces it to not downshift unless you tell it to, and that makes it hard to REALLY floor it to see how it is performing throughout the power band without it automatically downshifting on me...this drives me NUTS!
Transmission aside, I think the engine in mine has gotten smoother, stronger, and more fuel efficient in the last 2000 miles. I have about 5500 now. Overall, I think it is a fantastic engine. The power band is not as "exponential" as maybe I would expect from a sportscar, but for a truck it is solid, powerful, and consistent; and it gets me right into traffic from a dead stop like nobody's business.
It has a large sound for a v6 IMO too.

I traded in my 2005 Tacoma TRD Sport for my 2010 4Runner TE. Now, I have no complaints about the 4Runner, but the Tacoma was quicker and more more nimble for certain. This, I'm sure, is due to the power/weight ratio... the 4Runner is a good bit heavier than the Taco. Plus it seems that the TE has softer suspension, resulting in a less agile feel.
Loved the Tacoma.
