Time to break down and get new tires

285/70/17 Duratrac on 2014 TE 4Runner

Hi guys, I'm new to all this and I'm in the process of getting the new 2014 TE, I'd like to put on the tires as fast as possible when I get it since winter is almost here (Northern Alberta). But I was wondering what do I need to do to get this tires to fit my TE, I've seen lots of pictures in this forum, of TE's using the sime tires I'm mentioning here some are lifted, some are stock and some are leveled, My plan is to lift mine as soon as I know if wheteher or nor the Toytec Ultimate 3" lift fits the 2014. But in the mean time what should I do to be able to get the tires on? Maybe tell the dealership to instal a leveling kit? Or would this be a waste of money if I'm lifting it anyways? Can I make them fit just by using spacers? Idk any advise will be much appreciated.

Just follow this mod posted by [MENTION=8206]harper7[/MENTION] and i think you can probably get by with just that in most cases (assuming the 2014 is similar to the 2010-2013): http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/87546-will-285s-fit-black-wheel-question.html#post759604

The basic idea of the mod is to move the fender liners forward and also realign for max caster (which moves the wheel forward in the wheel well, and helps you clear the body mount).

Okay, now you owe me a favor, when you get your new 2014 can you measure all your tail light wires with a multimeter so we can figure out if the LED taillights are an easy swap onto our 2010-2013? :)

Agreed, your tires are the only thing connecting you to the ground. How much is your family worth to you? "Slicks" are not safe and need to be replaced.

I find this even more on the sports car aspect. People buy high HP cars then put the cheapest tire they can find on them.

Sure, I'll do that. I'll be going to the dealer on Saturday to test drive the SR5 and place an order for the Trail. It should be here by the end of the month.

Don't get me wrong. I realize you are right, tires are very important. While I do not feel unsafe running on the stock tires, I do not really care for them much. Mostly, I do not feel they fit the look of a 4Runner. Even in the snow in 4WD, I haven't had too much of a problem with them. Regardless of what tires I have, I always maintain a clear distance and drive defensively. I have been compared many times to "driving like an old lady", which is ok with me. My truck only has 24K miles, and I will probably replace them around 40K or so.

Running them until they are "slicks" was a joke. Everyone has a budget, and right now, $500 or more for new tires just isn't an option. I obviously do care about my safety, my family's safety, and the safety of other motorists. Once I feel any component of my vehicle compromises any of that, then I will take action.

Not being a tire expert of any kind, I did have a very good experience with the Firestones on a Chevy. I have not heard anything too negative about them and hope they would perform the same on a 4Runner. If I could get close to 80K miles on them, I would be very happy for that.

Great tire for most people in most situations. I drive a lot of highway, for me the Silent Armors provide great milage and are aggressive enough for mild weekend off-roading. That said, I'm getting a dedicated set of MT/R's in the spring to take me into the real wild. They're more aggressive than the Duratracs and a good balance of weight and tred wear compared to other MT's on the market.

In summary:
Mild - I like to SA
Medium - hard to argue with the Duratrac
Spicy - MT/R strikes a great balance and is well reviewed

How were the silent armors in the snow and ice? I have 275s on a limited and guess I will find out regardless.... Thx
