Time to replace speakers - suggestions?

Gotcha and made the addition to post just as you posted. Thanks again for your input...funny there was no mention of the wattage anywhere else in this thread prior. BTW, where did you get that figure (22 watts) from?

The 22watts are marked from behind the speaker itself.

Just note that the rear speakers are component. meaning separate tweeter in the rear.. The link on amazon is for a 2way meaning built in tweeter with mid range. It will still work, unless you want to go with a nother component system..

Components will separate the sound and tune a bit better. In your case it shouldn't matter if you like the stock speakers already.

I don't believe my rear speakers are separate components, as I don't have tweeters in the rear anywhere (I have these 2 fisheyed mirrors in their place).

If you get say 80w speakers the amp is not strong enough to power the speakers. It will sound distorted and not rich. SO you will do it no justice and is a waste of money. Also potential to ruin the speaker when underpowered.

I agree.. It may or may not. why risk it. I ran mines with OEM JBL amp and it sounds distorted like crap. Its why Im installing an amp. Im just directing him to get the most out of his speakers. Buying high end power speaker will not do him any good without an amp.

unless your extremely underpowering , it wont distort, and will never damage. Now overpowering, that's a different story. But you are correct theres no point in getting higher watt speakers unless he is going to upgrade the amp in the future.

I got 75watt rms MBquarts.. I was not sure how much the oem amp was putting out.. It sounded very distorted and weak compared to the oem speaker.. Especially from the tweeter.. Im giving advice from my own experience. I had a few systems when I was younger but always ran an aftermarket amp, so they always sound good. Plus when I was younger there was no internet to research. I just went and matched the watts on the box.. lol

Man have things changed. Im surprised Im knowledgeable enough to know about computers.

mb quarts are good stuff, i had a couple sets of them. Were they and the oem amp the same ohm, that may have been the culprit.

I remember they were both 4ohm. rear sub 8" is 2ohm I believe.. I ran them this way for over 6 months.. I hope to finish my 5 channel amp this weekend. It should have more than enough to power everything.

In previous posts in this thread, it was recommended to use 2-ohm speakers as replacements. The Rockfords are listed as 4-ohm. Is this something I need to worry about?

I have to double check. But i thought the sub was 2 ohms and mids are 4. I can bridge my speakers to 4 or 2 ohms.

Pretty sure my dash speakers are blown too, in my 2010 LE. I have seen a lot of posts indicating this - what causes them to blow so easily? I notice it most on phone calls and audiobooks.

I probably should have went that route myself since its cheaper. I spent close to 800 so far with amp, sub, speaker, and double din and install kits..

I'm liking the first Amazon link with the Rockford speakers and going to order a pair of 6x9 and a pair of 6.5s unless someone objects. I read the entire thread and found it very informative. Like the OP, I'm no audiophile and I'm happy with the OEM JBL Synthesis with RDS system.

I'm in the process of installing the Rockford speakers, currently doing the driver door.

Question: did anyone have to modify the OEM speaker holder thing to accommodate aftermarket speakers? My 6x9 doesn't quite sit flush inside the plastic holder/adapter and was wondering what'd be an elegant solution. I did have to trim the crossover/resistor holder a bit so it doesn't interfere with the speaker. I have the OEM JBL sythesis system which I have been told is 2ohm so I want to match the speakers with 2ohm as well.

The only 2ohm speakers that I can find are the Infinity Reference 9632cf but Crutchfield says that it won't fit and they also stated that if I go with a 4ohm speaker that it will be half as loud.

If there are not any other 2ohm options, how good would a 6.5" sound compared to the stock 6x9 up front?
