Just bought a 2006 SR5 4WD @ 127k miles....

So, is there any way to tell if the timing chain was done before? Should it be?

it wasn't.
ive never heard of anyone changing them as routine maintenance. its not necessary.

you shouldn't really have to even think about the chain until the mid 200Ks if not higher.

Don't waste your time trying to figure it out, timing chains don't need replaced in the v6. Timing belts in the v8 do. Carfax, dealer records, Toyota owners site just input the vin, or sometimes there is a Sticker in the engine bay for the v8's.

2006 v6 running chain stretched

My mechanic is getting a code for a stretched timing chain on my 2006 v6 SR5. I have over 190,000 miles andhe iisn't keen on doing the job. He apparently doesn't appreciate how long these trucks can last lol. As a result I am looking for aan fair and experienced toyota mechanic in the New York/ New Jersey area. Any suggestions??
