Solid. If you visit that place, all you need to do is walk in and let them know that you would like to add 20% tint front windows. It shouldn't take too long, maybe 30 minutes or less. However, they do keep a schedule of appointments they are supposed to handle so if you have a busy schedule then you should call their workplace to schedule an appointment where you would like to add 20% tint.
Solid on JMU. I'm still annoyed about our home loss to JMU two years ago. Screw UVA, but I have plenty of friends that's currently enrolled at UVA. The rivalry between both schools help 'spice' things up in our friendships!
They will pull you over, and they will use a device called Tint Enforcer. The device will help the police determine the tint % that is on the windows. I've gotten pulled over, and they found my tint to be 2% and 3% (two separate occasions) so the meter is 99.9% accurate, I guess. They will cite you a traffic infraction, which is a pre-payable offense. Basically you have two roads to go down from there... first one is to pay the ticket and continue driving with the tint but the catch is that you are still at risk for getting pulled over again due to illegal tint. Second road would be you taking the 4R back to the tint shop where they will take it off. However, you will want to get a written certification from them saying they removed it themselves and they confirmed that there are no illegal tint installed on your vehicle. Only because you will want to take that letter to the court on your court date and show it to the Judge. From there, he will dismiss the case and you can go...happy, I guess. I wouldn't be happy, 'cause I care about privacy and security of my vehicle.
For me though, I got pulled over three times and I've paid the tickets every time. $96 each, but they increased the processing fee on the website so my last tint ticket was $98 total.
Someone here on the forum pointed out a certain excerpt from the VA law code where frequent tint tickets can turn from a traffic infraction to a misdemeanor. He basically said I got lucky I wasn't charged with a misdemeanor because I had three tint tickets and they all were considered as traffic infractions. I don't know how many tickets they require issued before they charge you with a misdemeanor the next time you get pulled over.

I'm still enrolled at VT. I see. If you guys are on good terms & you both respect each other's privacy then there shouldn't be any problems. The thing is, legally he's not allowed to give you a ticket for the tint if your truck's parked. He has to catch you committing a moving violation which in this case would be a tint violation. If you're just looking for a little bit of privacy, then go ahead and do 20% front windows only. You'll have no issues seeing through at night, but you will be seen from the outside. It's not as dark as I would prefer, but only because I feel more secure with 3% when no one from the outside can see me. I don't know why, but I just do. You'll be fine with 20%, definitely.
