The goal was to make them look as stock as possible. Since I new the State patrol and local PD in my area have been stopping vehicles for tinting they're tail lights.

These have been sprayed with 6 layers of darkened clear coat.

Hey, I know the assistant police chief in Bonney Lake. Her son (Luke) used to go to school with my kid.

:)

Bonney lake is a extremely small community. As for the Local PD; I have never been harassed by them, well except for not having a Front license plate.

Thanks Foques!

I wanted them to blend in with the Mag Paint on the truck. Nothing to draw attention to the truck, but still be noticeable to other T4R owner.

More to come.

Tell me about it. I live here too. ;) Interesting enough, the 6 years I owned my BMW with no front license plate, they never once pulled me over.

For my safety, I usually don't think messing with the tails is good. Yours actually compliments that mag gray, can you possibly post a pic with the brake lights activated?

I like the way it looks on the Mag Grey, but I think I would go a little darker if I did mine. Please tell us what you used. I want to try a DIY and get it to look something along your taillights and Foques'.

ThirdToy: My buddy actually painted the tail lights. He's an outstanding custom painter and his prices are out standing for the work he does.

For my tail lights he used PPG Clear Coat with a little PPG Black. Mixed it to my liking and then sprayed very light coats.

  • Between each coat you must let them dry for a couple of hours.. And then apply another coat.
  • Once they are darkened to your liking, by spraying multiple coats... color sand with 1200....and buff with a high quality buffing pad...
  • Where most people make mistakes is by being impatient, This is where I have a problem.

SigSense: Yes I'll take some pictures this evening after my Window tinting appointment.

I also was worried about spraying the lights myself. Being a Dad of 2 very young children they needed to be done right with high quality stuff. A couple of months ago I sprayed 3 sets of Harley Tail Lights with "VHT Nightshade". Each time they turned out way to dark. So dark I wasn't able to see my my 48LED bulbs through that stuff. Lesson Learned.

Mason: I hear yah' every once in a while I think to myself I should of gone a little darker. I wanted a classy look instead of Thug-ster look. I am getting to old for that...I was also thinking if I wanted to sell the vehicle it that might limit my options?

I'll try to get better pictures tonight. My phone camera flash really lightens things up.

Ripsnort: I am not sure where that is? East Side of the Lake?

I am not to far off of 410. Your making me feel kind of weird and nervous. LOL

If I would of known you guys would study the reflections in the paint of my T4R, I would of picked up the garage and cleaned scrubbed the floor. LOL

LOL!
No need to worry...I'm married with children too. :)

Yeah, I live on the east side of Tapps, but not on the lake (Thankfully, I couldn't justify spending $10,000 in property taxes every year...)
Anyway, if you see a pearl white Limited in town with a "Lacrosse Dad" sticker on the drivers side rear window, that me. Wave. :)

I spend more time on the road in my truck than I do at home, running kids to soccer, football, lacrosse practices. :/

Lights on at about 6:00pm.

Sorry there's no night shots. I was to lazy to back the car out of the garage to snap a picture.

I did get my front windows tinted yesterday afternoon. The match is not perfect but it's legal. A buddy that works at Jaguar and Lexus of Tacoma did the work. It's same guy that installed my 3M Clear full Front-end Paint Protector.

The window tint is 35% 3M color stable material.

More mods to come.
