Tip for those that replaced their lift supports for the rear tailgate

When I bought the replacements from TRDParts4U, the bushings were pre-installed on the supports.

Question, is this bushing no longer available from Toyota?
If it is....is there a part number????

I just acquired my Dad's old '99 4Runner and trying to button up all the rattles and things needing fixing.

I went to Nuts N Bolts and picked up some bushings but the outside circumference wasn't wide enough.

I plan on going back and seeing if they have this size or I'll just go to Lows.

Toyota doesn't sell the bushing by itself, they sell the lifter assembly complete with upper bracket for $200+ a side - ask me how I know

Lost a c-clip that holds the strut bolt in. Anyone know the correct size for a replacement?

Did you find the right c-clip?
I'm looking for one, too. broke off as i uninstalled.

A little late but incase any one going forward needs a new C-Clip also called an E Ring I bought mine from Ace hardware they had plenty. It is a 1/4 inch E ring.

i'm heading right out to ACE and hopefully find the 1/2" nylon spacer someone already posted on to replace the worn out bushing as well.

Pep-boys also has the c clips. That’s were I got mine, because the original ones went flying somewhere in the garage lol. But my bushings were GONE LOL. Great idea OP. I need to do this. But I want to say that OEM bushings for the lift gate go inside the eye. When installed, it’s not metal to metal. But plastic or whatever it is to metal.

Many thanks thanks to the OP and others for this bushing repair.
I got my struts re-conditioned by Strutwise, then used the nylon bushing/nylon washer combo to complete the repair. Ace Hardware parts were cheap. I had to cut the bushing to fit between the strut bracket and allowed for room for the two washers. Used PVC pipe cutter tool for a smooth cut. There's no real need to lube the joint. The nylon is pretty slippery as is.
It's been well over a year and still works great.

I'm afraid I know the answer to this, but is there any way to purchase new brackets for where the struts attach to the tailgate/rear hatch without spending $180/side for the entire assembly (ie this Support Cylinder - Toyota (68907-35010) | Toyota Parts)? I bought aftermarket new struts already after watching Timmy's video but my top brackets are so badly deformed that the metal is worryingly thin and they're also bent so badly I can't even attach the struts and still have the bottom portion align with the bottom bracket.

No,at least not OEM. Best bet is to hit a junkyard or hit up
