Tire opinions

I'm most likely going to be buying new tires soon. The ones that came on my 4runner when I got it a couple months ago aren't horrible, but they aren't great either. Since winter is around the corner, and they will be replaced eventually when I lift it down the road, I figured I might as well get tires to plan for that.

Currently the 4runner is stock, but from what I've read I should be able to fit 265/75/16's under it with no issues.

The tires I've been looking at are:
-BFG All Terrain
-General Grabber AT2
-Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac

My main reason for this post is to get your opinions on the best tire for mostly daily driving, with some off road trips. I want something that will perform well on dry, wet, and snowy roads. But also do well off road whenever I feel like doing that.

I've heard mixed reviews between the BFG and the Duratracs. I haven't heard much at all about the Generals.

I have a friend who can get me a new set of the BFG All Terrains for $670. So those are VERY appealing for that price.

The Duratracs are my favorite option, although the most expensive. They are such a good looking tire IMO, and I've heard a lot of good reviews about them. I'm just not sure if they're too aggressive for mostly daily driving.

I would research, both the bfg and the duratrack are a good tire. My wife runs the treadwright bfg style tire and they are doing just as good as my real bfg's I ran on my Bronco years back(which go for about $480 shipped). Really love the mud and snow performance on the BFG. Never ran the duratrack but have awesome reviews on here.

Out of your list I would get the Duratrac.

When I get new tires I'm getting Mickey Thompson Bajas (285/75/16), probably the MTZ.

I am running 265/75R16 at stock ride height and no rubbing. I got Mastercraft Courser ATX they are an all terrain tires with a nice sidewall and tread pattern plus a 50k warranty. Hard to beat at $105 a tire. Dont do the General tires they suck Mastercraft are much nicer and a bit lower in cost.

I paid 173 for a tire to replace the one on the 96 ripped in the accident. Sad thing is my friend with a garage quoted me 230 for the same tire. I went across the street and saved 50 dollars and 28 miles of driving.

BF Goodrich recently released their new all terrain a little while back. Great option cause of the upgraded features and not to mention theyre now winter rated (snowflake/peak symbol) making them another equivalent option like the duratrac (personally i like better-bfg ta ko2)

I think the BFG's in 265/75/16 are only made in load range E which from what I have read is generally too much tire for 3rd gens. especially for a DD. everyone seems to like the duratrac. which I think they make in a C.

Im looking for new tires as well. does anyone have any experience with the Grabber AT2s?

I like my coopers, too. Quieter than the bfgs. I had bfgs on my Tacoma and was very happy with them, though. From what I've read the general grabber at2 is a bfg at clone that actually performs better than the bfg.

Can't say anything about the Goodyear.

I think the important thing to remember is that i don't think you van make a wrong choice here. Every tire mentioned so far is a very good tire.

I have been very happy with my AT2s. Lots of people on here are. They are great and only D rated @ 265 and 285 sizes which makes them lighter than the E rated BFGs.

They are also about 20% cheaper than the BFGs and just as good.

I have a friend who can get me a new set of the BFG All Terrains for $670

That is a very good price though and if you can only get the BFGs at discount then go for the BFGs.

The deal I can get on the All Terrains is the main thing that's making me lean towards them.

I've seen the KO2. I like those, but my friend can't get me a discount on them.

I really like the Duratracs, I'm just not sure if it's worth the extra money.

Can anyone with Duratracs chime in on how they are for daily driving. Is there much noise from them? Decent on rainy roads?

I have the 265/75 duratracs on my 4runner and I have 265/70 bfg all terrains on my range rover.

the bfgs seem to last abit longer than the duratracs, but the noise from the duratracs is very quiet for the tread, absolutely no whine or drone on the freeway. also they do very well in the rain, nice grip and no hydroplaning.

I bought the dt's for my runner because they looked better and where lighter than the bfg's and i'm a 4cyl.

overall I think you cant go wrong with either tire both are great.

I've had my 265/75/16's Duratracs for almost 2 yrs. I reckon 14k or so. I got's the C rated, which I agree is a nicer ride for DD. I've never found them to be too loud. They're holding up just fine (I rotate them regularly). Run about 32-33 lbs normally. Been fine on road, playing in the sand, mountains, snow. I love 'em. Them new BFG's look nice. I wonder if they offer a C.

Ran a few sets of bfg at on tacomas as well as my 4runner and then I went to the general grabber at2. I prefer the at2 honestly. Both are good tires but the ride and mileage are better with the at2. Also I live by a lot of sand and they do great in that terrain. Wet traction is good too but can't comment on mud or snow. They are studable so that helps.

I have 285/75/16 duratracs. They came brand new on my 4runner when I bought it a month ago. So far they've seen rain, gravel, sand and mud. They handled great in all those elements. They are also very quiet for an aggressive tread. So far my only complaint is the load e is heavy! I have a v6 and it just takes a lot to move these tires. My next tire will be a lighter load duratrac, Cooper stt or a toyo tire.
