Tire Question

I am getting to the point where I need to get new tires for my 2011 SR5. Currently I have the stock Dunlops. I am leaning towards the A/T Revo 2. I had the Revos on my last 4RUnner and liked them a lot.

From what I have read on this forum, upgrading tires can help with nose diving since the sidewall is stiffer on better tires. I don't know a lot about tires, there is a lot I don't understand.

Here is my question: Would getting the load range E be overkill considering I don't tow anything? I assume the E is stiffer for towing? How wrong am I here?Or would it be worth the extra money to help with the nose diving?

There will be those that tell you that you need them. For heavy off-road and overland use, then the thicker carcass will reduce flats and punctures. They will ride stiffer, because there is less flex to go around, at a significant cost of rolling weight.

In terms of specifications, even with P series tires the tires can carry 130%+ of the GVW - that's gross vehicle weight, the maximum it's licensed to weigh.

Thanks homey. I didn't even think about the extra weight. I don't do any off roading, so I guess I should be leaning more towards the regular A/T Revo's instead of the E rated Revos.

I'd say - yes E tires would be an overkill. C load @36psi will handle fully loaded T4R just fine. E tires are stronger but heavier. As I see it E load is a requirement for full size trucks like Ford F-250 for example. Lots of people use it for rock crawling because E tires have stronger sidewalls. I don't live in desert with many sharp rocks, so I got myself C load and so far they handle everything well.

Be advised, it's probably way more than you want to read, but if you're interested in that tire.....

Nothing about nose dive, though, and I don't tow, but the load E would definitely provide more side stiffness for towing. I need to update that thread soon, as I'm getting very good tread wear out of them. Significantly more than the estimate made in the thread.
