Tire size on door sticker vs. actual tires...

I recently bought my first 4runner. 2000 SR5 4x4. It has 265/70r16 tires on stock split-3 spoke rims. The door sticker says the vehicle tire size is the smaller 225 /r15. Does this mean my wheels are not the ones that actually came with the vehicle?

If the larger tires were an option, as I read, did Toyota correct the speedo if the customer opted for the larger tires?

My speedo does seem significantly off.

The P225/75R15 tires were the standard size on the Base and SR5 models. Hence that tire size on the door placard.

Lots of Base and SR5 models were equipped at the factory with the larger, optional tires. Mine was one that came equipped with the larger optional P265/70R16 tires. Yes, on 4Runners that were factory equipped with the larger optional tires, the speedometer and odometer were calibrated for the larger tires.

Whether your 4Runner came with the larger optional tires from the factory, I can't say. If the speedo and odo are as far off as you say, then it probably didn't come with the larger optional wheels and tires.

Nope. I have seen multiple SR5's sitting on 265's that had door stickers saying that they had 225's.

I don't really know unless you have the window sticker or find a way to get the build sheet from Toyota which you could try.

It says what size tires were intended to be fitted at the factory at the time they printed the sticker. Some trucks were upfitted at the factory with larger tires, others got bigger meats at the dealership. We have the same problem with the 1st and 2nd gen trucks - some came with 31s on them, and the sticker is not an accurate reflection of which did and which didn't.

Probably a dumb but related question. If the speedometer matches with the GPS speed, does that means that even the odometer is calibrated correctly?

It does. It lists the STANDARD tire size.

However, the optional wheel and tire size is not listed on the door placard. Lots of Base and SR5 4Runner's were equipped with the larger optional wheel and tire size...

Optional wheels and tires were noted on the vehicle Monroney sticker.

Ignore the sticker on the door jamb. Look at the sticker that is on the driver's door itself. It's towards the base. That will tell you what size tire it is set for.

My 01 sport says the 225 as well, came with 265s like the rest.
