Tire/wheel question

Hello everyone, I'm new the to forums. Ex-Jeep owner here (turned out to be a lemon) and now a 2010 Trail 4 Runner owner. I have a quick question about a tire/wheel setup and looking for some insight. My (currently) stock 4 runner is wearing the standard 265 70r 17 tires on the trail edition wheels. I need new tires within a few months and I was looking at the Toyo Open Country II 285 70r 17. This will give me a little bit more tire diameter and width. It looks like the tires will fit just fine on the stock wheels, but my question is whether the tires will rub on a full turn (against body or mechanical components) or during full suspension flex. I don't know if additional wheel backspacing is needed or not to avoid rubbing.

I was very familiar what tire and wheel sizes could be used for various lifts on the Wrangler but this 4 Runner is a whole new world to me. Any insight would be much appreciated!

Also, I'm thinking about buying new Bilistein 5100 shocks (for my stock setup - no lift). Would this give the 4 runner a slight lift (being new shocks and all) without spacers or anything lifting components? Was looking at the Bilistein shocks tuned for the 2010 4 Runner on AutoAnything.com.

Thanks!

Hi Kodo,

Can I suggest you consider at least a slight lift if your going to 285's? 5100's are popular, you'll find many posts of happy users, however alone they're not going to provide lift.

I'm running 285's with no rubbing issues, however I went up a few inches.

If you look at 1E's fitment chart some modifications may be necessary but its doable.

Thanks for the input Mooney. I've decided to go the 275/70R/17 route since they seem to have the least chance of rubbing and are slightly larger than stock. The Cooper A/T3 or the Cooper S/T Maxx look like interesting tires in this size. Think I'll leave the lift/more significant mods until a later date.

I think if you are using stock wheels you would be fine with 275's

I just put on some 275 KO2's with scs wheels with a -10 offset and they rub on my stock 14. I get rub on front bumper cover and mudflaps.

I plan on going with 5100's at .85 or 1.75...still debating

If only there was a good explanation for the best possible search on the internet..... and if only it was right at the top of the 5th gen section where it could be easily found..........

.......

click

It also applies to every single website. If I know the site I want to target, this is very useful to narrow your results.
