Hello sir. I have a question about the mod you made to your Hitchgate, if you don't mind me asking. I bought one recently and planned on doing the same chop mod to get it to sit closer to the bumper. However I'm wondering if they have changed the design. If I were to chop at the location you have outlined with the white dashed line, I would lose the 'nut plate / backing plate' where you would tighten the bolt up. That plate is located immediately aft of the angled cut for the wedge. Did you weld in a new plate further out in the tube to retain the wedge feature?
Thanks

It seems like the way the hitch insert works you have to remove your original spare to use this? I know along the way some folks mentioned they wanted to use this to have TWO spares, but it seems like that may not be possible?
So oem spare has to go to use the rack?
Thanks
And second question...what paint did you use to touch up after your work?
Honestly,
I removed my spare from under the rig long before adding the tiregate for a little extra clearance and the fact that it became useless once my tires could no longer fit in that spot anyways ...for this is the reason why I purchased the tiregate.
So to answer your question ...I have no idea I’ve never bothered nor tried to fit a spare down there with the tiregate mounted.
Rustoleum primer
And
Rustoleum Satin Black
Hope that helps some what...lol
