Here's the link to my build thread on YT:
Newbie attempt at a 3rd gen rear tire carrier - YotaTech Forums
Check it out and let me know what you think. I've been running it for a few months now, and still love it! In the pics you see above, I only have about $100.00 invested into it! You could probably get a fabricator to build something similar, maybe even better for $200.00 bucks??
Looks good.
It looks real beefy... Until you get to the hinges. Sorry to rip on them again, but you have to admit, it goes from big and thick, to thin.
What stops it when you fold it down? The ball hitch looks lower than it used to be.
I am not a big fan of the bumpers going onto the license plate panel. That thing is just plastic. Not sure how much loading it actually takes, but I assume it stops some wobble inherent in the quick release mechanism? My sense from looking is that you could damage the license plate trim.
Sorry if this post sounds critical. I like where you are going with this thing. it makes me want to buy a welder and make one myself. Can you take a pic of how you attached it to the frame?
I really like that you still have the hitch available, and you havn't modified the stock bumper. I can't think of another rear spare tire holder I have seen either here or yotatech that has that (at least that looks this good).
Thanks for posting more pics
As for the actual receiver, it is lower. Much needed I might add. The male end of the hitch is fully removeable, so all that is left it the receiver, which sits a little over 5" higher then the ball does. I needed to get a drop hitch, as my tent trailer is too low, and I was rolling with some pretty crazy pitch on the tongue of the trailer......
I can take some pics of the undercarriage mounts, once the snow stops!! CRAZY CANADIAN FALL WEATHER!
