Tires- BFG TAKO2 question…new size available

I am going to need new tires this winter. Currently have Firestone Destination A/T 285/70/17. Have 3" Toytec lift, stock UCA's. Love the ride and quiet of the Firestones, but like anyone else, I want to shop around. Been looking at the Goodyear Adventure with Kevlar in 285's and like their performance in snow. Just saw the new BFG TAKO2's will be available… interested in them.

Here's the question, there is a new size, pizza cutter style, 34x10.5x17. It is not a metric but is a 17" tire. Forst of all, will this fit on my stock TE wheels (2012 TE)? Seems like it should, even says rim size7"-9" and mine are 7.5". The tire has a diameter of 33.5", is 10.6" wide on 8" rims, weighs 57.3LB. If I am running the 3" lift and having no rubbing issues with the Destinations which are 32.76" diameter and are 11.5" wide, can I run these tires? They are narrower, but 3/4" larger diameter.

They will easily fit on your stock rims which are 7.5", and I'm certain you will experience rubbing at some point. The thinner section width and tread width are nice and will help minimize contact with body mounts and fender liners, but the extra diameter of a "34" inch tire will override that at some point, whether it be at full steering lock or under flex.

With my current 285/70's I have things trimmed and chopped and positioned so that there is absolutely no rub anywhere under any circumstances, but the clearances are 1/2 -3/4" max. In short, if I go to a 285/75 17 or a 34x10.5, there will almost certainly be rubbing(most likely when under flex), which will require a bit more fender well work. It's might not be much, but I'm sure it will be there.

I've been wanting a bit of extra sidewall, so I've been thinking of trying the Toyo's or Nitto's or BFG KM2's in the 285/75 or perhaps even this new AT they have coming out in the 34x10.5. Maybe we'll get lucky.
