Tires for winter in WY?

I ran Firestone Winterforce tires for 2 winters and they seemed to do pretty well. I am an extremely defensive driver so I never had to brake hard in an emergency, but they did grip nicely when it came to get going.

I had BFG A/Ts for 5 years before getting the Winterforce tires, and now just changed to Goodyear Duratracs (only because I got new/bigger wheels and larger tires).

I agree though, I rely more on my skill, experience, and defensive driving when driving in winter weather. Take it slow and leave plenty of room between you and other cars and you'll have better odds in bad weather driving.

Nothing beats experience except experience and good tires. I think the Duratracs will be my next tire of choice, but my General Grabber AT2's have been great in both the bitter cold packed snow of Ottawa, Ontario and the crazy deep snow belt snow around Barrie, Ontario. They are also pretty reasonably priced.

I just put 265/75/16 Duratracs on my 1999 4Runner and they have done great in the snow and ice over the past week. They are a snow rated tire that you can leave on year round. They can also be studded if that is a desire.

I have Yokohama W.drive tires on my wife's X3 and the duratracs seem to do better in the snow than they do.
