Can you fit a 31" or 32" into the spare tire area?

The hitch seems like it might limit tire size there.

Oh and also - it seems well posted here that you can fit 31" tires on stock suspension w/o rubbing. How about 32" tires?

In the 2nd gen 4runners, 31s dont fit in the spare tire spot like they should , but they will still go under there.

a 31 should fit but it would be tight. if you have idk though, a have a custom hitch so its not in the way at all.
rubbing, depending on your rim offset rubbing isnt ann issue with 31's , they rub at full crank.

My 31 fits fine. but if it were up to me I'd have a swing out spare.

I'm struggling with this issue, as well. I've got a 90 4Runner that I'm fitting out for some off-road time in Baja. It has a rear spare, but it's wise to carry two spares down there.

I want to add an undermount spare and a hitch, but all of the hitches I've seen say they won't work with a 31 inch spare.

Can anyone post pics of their hitch and 31 inch spare?

Can you fit a 32" BFG /TKO under a first gen if you take out the OEM hitch or modify it?

I measured it and feel pretty confident a 31" tire fill fit with no worries and I suspect I can get a 32" in there if I remove the hitch.

Just looking for some outside feedback. 5 new tires is big chunk of change and I'd prefer to have no surprises.

31" Spare

I have a smitty built dual tube rear bumper with the hitch option and I have a 31" spare tire hidden there. I can fit up to a 33" in this area. Unfortunately I can't fit 35s though.

Have any of you tried airing down a 34 or 35 inch spare so that it will fit in the standard spare area? I haven't but was wondering if this was a doable thing. If you have a compressor or CO2 system it seems airing up the spare when needed wouldn't be too difficult.

What do you guys think?

i have a spare 33x12.5x15 with a tow package and it took alittle squeezing but it fit in, cant be gentle just gotta shove it in there lol

I currently have a 31" spare and it fits fine. Not too sure about a 32". (btw i have no trailer hitch so that may change the space you have)

i recently added my wife's old BFGs in 265x70x16 onto steel 16" wheels and want to be able to mount a spare under the 'ole '88!!!
