My Stubbs rock sliders are on the way. It has been stated by many members to do a BL before installing, if a BL was being considered.

What are the Pros and Cons of a BL?

You can install a BL anytime you want, but maybe those particular sliders fit better with a BL, hence the install.
Advantages of a BL :
- room for bigger tires
- room for a larger engine/trans swap
- room to lift your gas tank
- room to raise your entire drive train

The reason I'm asking is because these are weld on sliders. If I BL after installed, then they will be low as the body is higher.

Those are good advantages.

If you are going to do a BL is am firm beleiver in only going with a 1" or 1.5". Fourwd1 pointed out most of the positives, I will list some of the negatives.

The higher the BL the more seperation between frane and body(no duh I know) but that brings on a few different factors. The larger the distance the greater the force on the bolts and I have seen guys with 3" BL sheer the cab or body right off the frame from a hard sudden stop. It also allows for more body flex stressing hinges windows etc. You also have to add couplers/spacers to your steering linkage.

I have a 1" body sitting in my garage waiting to be installed for almost a year now because I don't want to have to cut off my old sliders. I already have new sliders that are also ready to install, just the thought of all the grinding and cutting and new welding is making it easy to put the modification off. So I agree, install a BL prior to getting your sliders welded on, will save a lot of labor in the long run.
 
After looking at the P's and C's of a bl... I'm thinking of not going down that road. I really don't think I'll run bigger than 33's. I was thinking of a 1" but what would that really get me? Probably more hassel than gain.

Krazynative- a 1" will gain you enough to run the 33's without rubbing once you lift. I was against BL altogether but after running my lift the past three years I still rub a little with my 33's. I plan on using the 1"BL to give just that little extra needed to clear without any rubbing.

Actually, I'm runnig 33's now and I barely rub on the front of the wheel well liner at full lock. I just need to move it forward a tad more and I'll be fine. For some reason I don't rub at the body mount like most others do.

But then again... I just put on the OW 2.5's on sunday and I'm starting think 1 more inch and a DO bumper would give me a lot more clearance.

I have been reading about the bl's on here, but really how difficult are they to inistall?

I guess I haven't really made up my mind yet.
 
I know on a 3rd gen it isnt that hard and can't imagine it being that much more difficult on a 4th gen. 3rd Gens we have to remove the front bumper and then the door sill trim so we can lift carpet and access the body bolts. Loosen all bolts(usually soak with liquid wrench or similar day or two prior) then work on one side at a time. DO bumpers are nice but I also know Jimmy at Outdoor logic would like to build a 4th Gen bumper, you might want to give him a call and let him know I sent you 951-588-6232

I ordered a BL with my slidders with the discission based on I have a 3" lift which is providing alot of clearance under my rocker panels i dont want to loose that added clearance from the suspession lift by welding an 1 3/4 bar there so i ordered a 1.25" body lift which will allow me to maintain the current ground clearance after the install of the sliders. ill loose roughly 3/4" once the sliders are welded on so I'm saving myself an inch of ground clearance. plus im interested in raising the gas tank up into the frame more. The body lift wasnt that hard of an install even the steering spacer was simple. theres only 8 body mounts total on the 4th gens. the new hard ware that comes with the BL kits from 4crawler are slighty larger than OEM mounting bolts so be prepared to open up the mounting holes in the body slightly with a drill (that was my biggest headache durring intall) I'm running a 32.50" x 12" tire and after BL rubbing has seised to exist other than full lock/crush the tires right there on the bodymount. I plan to get a set of 2.5 CO's soon just not ready to pull the trigger on that order i just heard overland warehouse was closing. :sobbing: but I'll say before now ive always been against body lifts but after installing just the 1.25BL i can really see the gains of just adding a little extra space between the frame and the body.
 
Body lifts are as good as spacer lifts... a quick easy way to fit a bigger tire. I'f you want the bigger tire, get a bigger suspension lift.
