To go Black...or not to go Black

My opinion is get the color you like !
The 4Runner looks great in all colors, black is hard to keep clean but sharp looking, I have a 2015 Limited blizzard pearl and love it and it too gets dirty...I just have someone clean it for me when it gets annoying :thumb3:

If you own black you need to be at one extreme or the other........either a happy detailing enthusiast (and have time for it) OR will honestly not care about marking it up early and often. If you are in between, forget about it.j

Quite frankly, I fall into the "detailing enthusiast" subset. The reality is that my current work schedule makes it a challenge to ensure I have time to keep the rig looking good. Truly, black is my favorite color for most vehicles (a red Ferrari is hard to beat), and my question really was more about how the paint holds up vice how hard it is to keep looking sharp. My extent of black vehicles is limited to German manufacturers, which notoriously scratch easily.

With that said, the black 4Runner we found is quite a deal, and is still sticking in the back of my mind.

I bought a black 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon new, and washed it maybe 6 times in the 13 years I owned it. I bought a 2008 Subaru Outback XT new, and washed it 2-3 times in the 8 years I owned it. And I bought a black 2016 Trail Premium and haven't washed it since new in May. And I live in Ohio, where they use salt on the road, so they look white until the spring rains.

I like black dirty just as much as black clean and shiny...

Were not officially 4runner owners until Friday but the 2014 black explorer with paint falling off the hood sitting in our driveway gets dirty just sitting in our driveway. No more black vehicles for us. Were going with Classic Silver.

I would totally do a flat black, which eliminates most of the issues with imperfections. I like the look of black vehicles and have never been particular about blemishes, but I would still probably not get a gloss black vehicle myself.

I've had 5 black vehicles in my life. I was in my teens and to my mid twenties..before kids and other obligations.

Maybe for a toy once I can devote time to as I love black when it's clean.

Now..the Runner is super white and my truck is tan. I keep my vehicles clean but it's nice to skip a week and they still don't look like crap after one day of driving! LOL

I didn't want to wait another 2-3 months for the white ones to come out, so I went for the Attitude Black with some trepidation. The answer: Expel clear bra the entire vehicle! Expensive, yes, but after 2+ years/30k mi., no swirls, pinstripes, drip marks, etc. Its actually dirty in this pic.

Ultimately, you have to examine your personal situation and decide if you want this color. What are you willing to tolerate?

Personally, this is the only black vehicle I will ever own. This trim package looks very BA in black.
