Total Bummer

4Runner

Sorry to hear of your loss so late. I think the airbags didn't deploy because of the brush guard. I have heard that sometimes it cane interfere with the airbag impact sensors. At least it protected you in that aspect.

So what's the verdict now? I heard you can still claim stuff if you replace it: ie: wheels, replace em with steelies, stereo: replace it with a stock OEM unit on eBay. You can prolly take that DVD system down with you too if it still works

I am just waiting to hear from insurance. if they tell me its totaled I will be going down to the body shop in the next few days. I am gonna find some cheap steelies and cheap tires, Jev do you still have the stock rims/tires? or the stock head unit?
when i take the dvd player out, do you think i will need to replace the headliner?

I had a car totaled and i ripped my stereo system out and didnt put anythign back in. Its still yours until the company cuts you a check. You can go get what you want out of it in fear that the stereo may be stolen. Throw soem cheap wheels on it and take all the stereo out, You can just put a cheap as radio in the whole to make it look filled in. It doesnt have to work or even be hooked up. That truck belonged to a buddy of mine. It was a clean truck, luckily you are alright.

snookster- go with what CUTUPSUM wrote. i beleive he is correct 100%. It is still "your" truck. As far as headliner, nah! I dont think you'll be responsible.

UPDATE

Here is an update for you guys. I spoke with the insurance company yesterday. they said the have written the vehicle off as a Total Loss. Another plus, I can be re-embursed for up to $1000 in aftermarket parts. IE: brushgaurd/ wheels. I am waiting for the claims adjuster to phone be with the details.

On the other hand.... I spoke with my father last night and he is trying to sell is 4runner. It is a 99 limited with 130k, all service records, 1 owner (prior to my father), 4x4, TRD exhaust, and best of all.... ITS SUPERCHARGED!!!!! :happy bda

I will then put the 17" limited wheels on and install my sound system in it. It has a brushgaurd that needs refinishing. Eventually I will install some beefy A/T tires and a small lift (1"-3") as I will now have a 4x4. I'm not WILD about the color, but It has definitely grown on me. Its the two tone green and gold. The only downside to me is that the car has spent the majority of its life in Michigan. So has some surface rust due to the salty winter roads. The car is immaculate otherwise.

Any input on bringing a northern car down to FL would be great.

way to go snooks

something good always comes out of the bad-that sounds like an excellent rig to replace your old one.

Supercharger and TRD exhaust and a 99 - damn that sounds fine.

Way to go and we await your new photos .

Stay safe -and I for one would like to encourage you to drop the brushguard look for a beefy and stout ARB or TJM replacement bumper.

A bit of protection is better than no front end protection at all but there are those who argue the brush guards actually cause more damage than they prevent.

You really lucked out. A 99 Limited is sweet. You can run the 4WD on dry pavement and probably has a rear locker, too. And about the two-tone, you can get the gold-colored cladding painted to match the green. It would look sick.

Also, I personally like the 16" limited wheels MUCH better than the 17" Sequoia's. Keep the 16's and sell the 17's. The tires are cheaper for the 16's anyway, and there are more off-road tires available for the 16" size.

Good luck with the new 4Runner!

BTW - The insurance company should reimburse you for taxes, too.

yeah about that..... taxes on the vehicle? as it was a private sale... Well i'm not saying that I did this.... but.... kinda didn't claim the whole vehicle price.

glad to hear you are ok, your acr is replaced and you'll get to see your kids grow up. as a father of 2 i always think of my kids whenever something is going down.

over here we say that you shoudl give an "offering" when you survive something bad. it can be in the form of a small donation or even a sacrific.

this time play it safe,... it'd supercharged!
